I almost swore off this site for good because of the overwhelming negativity but I wanted to share something positive for a change. Here at State Farm, we do more than help life go right by our customers - we strive for positive social change.
The amazing leadership of Mark O and Ashley P have set the stage for the next generation of tech workers, and the future is female. Here at State Farm, we have made it our primary focus to hire more women into technology positions.
For far too long, the problem with systems has been that it is a club for straight white men. Sis white male patriarchy approaches every problem as a zero sum game. In the current year, 2018, we are ditching the old way of thinking about technology - where everything is black and white, right and wrong. Technology is not about 1s and 0s. Much like gender, computers are non-binary.
The amazing innovation at State Farm will change the thinking style of toxic masculinity that is so prevalent in our industry. With more women in systems, we can start to explore the more emotional aspects of database programming. When we empower women, we realize that computers are not about raw logic and reasoning but rather about feelings and interpersonal relationships.
Imagine a world where women are not harassed by patriarchal standards such as the rigid and s-xist requirement that most code compilers enforce. Thanks to the priorities of our amazing leadership in systems, we can empower women to think outside of the paradigm of compilable code. Now that is re3markable!
