Thread regarding AIG (American Intl Group Inc.) layoffs

Beginning of August will be a blood bath.

Everyone's on the chopping block over the next few weeks. Keep your head on a swivel. We're talking more than just IT.

When an employee quits without notice do managers have to answer for that or is it just ignored?

The Dupperault hiring inspired so much hope and promise but 2 years later he’s running the exact same playbook as the prior CEO - focus on reducing GOE via layoffs, no profit-generating ideas and negative messaging. This time it’s “we can succeed. We just need to do it with less people.” Meanwhile they just forecasted 1.5B in 3rd quarter losses. It’s a mess.

Expect more mid-level layoffs as the old guard is shown the door. Only the new “Dream Team” execs are safe. For lower level employees just keep our heads down and off the radar.

Now it's October. RIFs have happened and more are coming. Morale is low, and yes, between outsourcing and entry level they're getting rid of the older folks. Except in senior management of course.

Just wondering what the next group that they are going to focus on for RIF's

No layoffs in my group. Rest of the profit centers need to learn how to profit. Your risk taking is careless at best. Sadly, more “millennials “ and grades 23+, fewer plebs between 16 and 22 with experience. Up or out, as they say.

I completely agree with prior posts that mentioned a bloated executive expense and major drop in customer service abilities. It’s unbelievable to me. How can the executives not see it? Cutting a couple of them could fund an entire customer service team that would make all the difference for AIG’s customers, and maybe save it from failure.

Layoffs have started as of mid September. Unfortunately, rather than cut at the bloated senior executive level, it seems like mostly mid and low level roles are being cut. Despite announcing a regional structure in 2017, the new CEO and his new exec team have yet to eliminate all the high level “global” titles and positions. These global roles have always vague authority with unclear accountability. It’s exacerabeted by the fact that there are now high level regional heads that don’t report to the “global” execs. Forget about being “too big to fail”. It seems AIG is too big of a mess not to fail.

Claims and other services related will also have RIF's. They are not immune from what is going on.

I was a part of the RMIS RIF and yes, more are coming. The national service team in the field was taken out entirely, only reg'l managers left there now and some HO staff. There is even talk of taking the RMIS dept out completely and shifting it under another area (shared services?) as all that will remain is a website and offshore help center in Manilla. Our product is developed to the point of self service, no need for a big employee structure around it anymore. Clients won't be happy but hello, this has been the way of AIG for a few years now. AIG was building a reputation for service for a bit there but now that is gone as they people are not there anymore to provide it. Client base has been shrinking steadily over recent years. Breaks my heart to see it happen. Used to be a great place to work.

Good luck to everyone today. Heard there were some quiet layoffs in NY yesterday. Sure to continue through the next two weeks.

In reading theLayoff.com some posts say layoffs are imminent and if you are not a profit center you will be affected by these impending layoffs can anyone describe what is meant by a ‘profit center’ there are some postings that indicate no one is immune no one is safe and the cuts wood be in every department across company lines of business can anyone elaborate at all who might be at risk is this a nation wide or world wide RIF thanks

Unless you're directly contributing to a profit center you are at risk. First wave to start Friday 8/3, and will continue throughout the month. It's time to buckle up and get ready for some turbulence.

I got laid off four years ago and I’m still smiling. Take the severance and don’t look back.

Last year they rifd a guy that was less than a year away from retirement, he was already vested in the old pension plan. When he got his package he said it was like winning the lottery. Never seen anyone so happy to get walked out of the building.

Because of the severance! Especially if you've worked there awhile. Who wouldn't want to get paid two weeks for every year you've been there plus have the option to continue to receive it as your regular pay and keep your medical and dental and vision. Can't beat that! Gives you time a little time before you jump back in with another job.

Can anyone share any new or further details regarding impending layoffs - cuts - RIF's - locations that will be impacted - I am in claims state side KC Shared Services - just trying to find out as much as possible to brace for impact - letting my colleagues know about this site and the latest information possible - is anyone on here that is actually inside of AIG - not asking for any names just whether some may be on the inside with definitive information - it all sounds very real to me - thanks

Earnings be what they may, this has been in the works and will not change now.

Confirmed, the rumors will be reality shortly. Multiple sources in NY have confirmed to me. All departments, all positions, deep and wide, no one safe. Be as ready as you can be. The remainder of 2018 will have many casualties.

All this aside, seriously...when is it enough? Only a very young person who is going to work there a short time (and for cheap I might add) will be seeking employment at AIG. So the company will be full of cheaper, somewhat inexperienced labor that will be turning over year or two. This will continue for the next 5-10 years. Eventually it may settle down again.

AIG is only a stopping place for new hires at this point. That's why the Sr. Execs are still making the large salaries - they have to pay someone well to be a senior person there nowadays as everyone is onto what AIG is doing.

8 years ago someone with a very good connection at the top laid out what was going to happen over the next 5-8 years in detail. I told him he was crazy. But, to the letter, it has pretty much happened. I am shocked as I bled AIG Blue. And then I got RIF'd.

AIG Is not even a shadow of the greatness it used to be. It was awesome in the days when it was a juggernaut and cutting edge.

Yes, many more layoffs are just around the corner. Take your severance package, it's pretty good. And then start anew.
