Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

LR in Security BU

There is restructuring in Security BU (email security, Fire Power and Policy) departments. One Director has been changed to Principal Engineer and lot of team has been deleted. This is the same division, where last year a Sr. Director was removed.

This was bound to happen as Cisco bought Duo Security for $2B. Old products of security need a chopping to keep the spending intact.

Though I have never worked for Cisco, but knowing that for an employee's appraisal, he is not a part and some other group is taking decisions is simply crazy. This makes a Manager, dictator and the setup will simply collapse. In one word-----Inhumane.

@UrkBwUj-1jiy -- lol, of course there is. Its just not done with employee input any longer. Still stack rankings done at BU level by mgmt.

@UrkBwUj-ird there is no appraisal system in Cisco for past 3 years. It depends on your manager based on the relationship

@UrkBwUj-ird --- Sure, older \ more expensive workers are generally caught in this trap because there are fewer opportunities to transition inside of a company at senior levels. Classic corporate pyramid.

The impetus is still around failed product \ group

Cisco acquires companies as an innovation strategy. Many don't work out and the bulk of the layoffs are around those failed acquisitions .

The rest of the products are simply sustained (and eventually offshored) and the cycle repeats.

@UrkBwUj-euk - not quite correct. Cisco does layoffs to purge expensive older talent, regardless of performance, to boost quarterly stock prices

Cisco does layoffs on a regular basis to purge underperforming talent / products from prior acquisitions once they start missing key Cisco milestones. The magic 2 year window where new products are given a chance to succeed at Cisco scale - after that you get treated to reality and top folks are pushed out quietly, then the weak talent follows shortly after.
