Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

Hosted Virtual Desktop (HVD)

Starting to hear rumblings about this coming to sites outside of Charlotte. Can anyone elaborate on what this is and how it impacts WFH, VPN time, etc.? I had never heard of this until recently. TIA

I would BBQ all day. Some baby back ribs, some sausages maybe even some bulgogi.

Or you can stop being cheap and buy a freaking computer.

So does this mean no bank supplied laptop? I mean if you need to work from home and you don’t have your own pc what do you do?

You still have to create a VPN to connect.

It will work the same as now but you will be connecting to a VM as oppose to your machine.

How does VPN time and WFH tracking work with it?

Is there much of a lag in performance / screen refreshes?

It's really not all that bad. I have had an HVD for only a year. No major issues once you are up and running. You can logon with Citrix from almost any platform. Phone, tablet, pc, Mac...whatever.

Removes loss due to theft, accident, and many other scenarios. Sometimes it is a little slow opening a large program, but that has been the only mark downside.

Also, I heard you give up your office laptop, and must share one at work while sitting at a long table elbow to elbow. Tip - bring your own keyboard and mouse, or at least antibacterial wipes.

HVD is a virtual machine - a cloud-based PC. You can use remote desktop from within the bank to log into it. From outside the bank you log in the same way as your regular desktop. The biggest benefit for an end-user is that its available 24x7. It's not impacted by building power-downs, and no need to ask coworkers to reboot your PC when WFH. Biggest drawbacks include that the virtual PCs tend to be underpowered, plus getting custom software installed can be a PITA.

Yes heard a coworker got the email and all I know is that it enables them to use their personal computer for things. I’ll see what I can find out. Not all team members of his got the email.
