Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Does anyone know of layoffs coming up at SYW HE?

I heard rumors on this site that some were coming this month, wanted to see if anyone had specifics so I could be prepared with my bags packed. Thank you

Not only was AT&T shut down but some might remember the Allstate campus on Higgins & Bartlett road...(South Barrington) it was a beautiful campus but even that faced the wrecking ball. This used to be maybe a mile or two east of Sears. I was surprised when they took that campus down. McDonald's moved back to Chicago as did some other companies. Seems the large suburban sprawling campus is falling out of favor. Would not surprise me if some part of Sears HQ was also taken down or sold. The over head to keep that place operational must be into the millions.

They would be well advised to sell HE while it still has value. A landlord could attract new tenants, the company would be forced to consolidate offices. If they wait until the very end, then a combination of deferred maintenance and a lack of time to find tenants will exacerbate the situation. The building could easily end up being torn down like the AT&T campus across I-90. Then, they are spending money to get rid of it.

I heard that HE is for sale. Is this true? Not just renting the vacant space but the whole campus is for sale. Any thoughts?

Man, if you're still working at Hoffman and aren't looking for a job, you're delusional. I agree with others that posted here. If you can't pack your personal items in one small bag and leave, you aren't being straight with yourself about how the company is going. Get out before there is no severance and you don't have an updated resume.

I worked at Sears in HE for 24 years. During this time, there were endless waves of lay-offs, almost every year. The last couple of years it started to occur every 3 or 4 months. As the last poster advised, please remove all personal belongings NOW and pack light. When you get laid off, you will only have one hour to pack up and leave the campus. You will NOT be able to log back onto your system to send a good bye email or anything like that. To avoid the walk of shame of having to take multiple boxes of belongings out to your vehicle, just keep one or two items on your desk... that's all. You might even consider making a serious effort to find another job NOW. I am not angry at Sears for what happened to me. We all have to be prepared for the inevitable. The company is fighting but apparently losing the battle. The economy is good and there seem to be many jobs available. Good luck to all current and ex-Sears folks. Also remember ... if a chapter 7 or 11 occurs there might not be any severance packages offered. Also... if that happens and you file for unemployment, there is a 'waiting week' in Illinois before UE benefits are paid. So... stay ahead of the curve and be prepared.

@2nwk-- Well said. If anyone on these boards thinks that anything they say or do will save or sink this company they are crazy. Also, if you think that any amount of cuts or working harder or any policy changes will make up for the 5 billion in debt SHC is you are not thinking straight. With sales YoY falling and stores closing, which mean revenue dropping, you would have to have hundreds of stores who are massively profitable to even put a dent in the debt. A few obscure post will not make a difference. The only difference would be in our life when they close your store, lay you off or eliminate your position. Heed the advise here and get out while the economy is good.

@1dlk You are sorely mistaken to believe that a few random people on this relatively obscure message board are wielding substantial influence over the fate of this company. Here's the fact. Anything said on here isn't even a blip on the radar. Protractors aren't going to save the company and detractors aren't going to sink it.

Give credit where it is due. You can thank years of mismanagement (and now, the orchestrated sabotage by Eddie Lampert, to his benefit) for that.

Someone said there would be some Aug 16th on these boards a few weeks ago, not sure if that’s true, I hope not

If you still work for Sears HE you should have taken your personal stuff home years ago. I took mine home 3 years before I finally got the ax.

Cleaning bathrooms at Walmart is a better job than cleaning the bathrooms at Sears?

I have never understood why people bring a bunch of personal stuff into work. A couple of small pictures and your lunch sack should be all you have there. Unless you're very high level and the company will pay for you to move out if necessary.
