The management is stupid. But they do understand simple concepts like numbers. As the cloud numbers continue to go down the tubes, more people will need to be laid off. At some point the dam

will break and they will cut the severance packages back.

Update your skills, dust off your resume and get a job elsewhere. You will glad you did.

"The more people Oracle has to lay off, the more likely they will start reducing severance packages."

Saw that happen at HP. I was wfr'd (work force reduction) in 2001 and even though I had only been there 8 years I got 6 months severance. Czarly's layoff machine really kicked into overdrive after the Compaq merger completed and I heard through the grapevine that with each wave of mass layoffs that the severance became less and less generous.

If you are waiting around for severance, you may be making a big mistake. There is no law that says you must pay severance. Oracle does it in exchange for you signing a statement that says you will not sue them. Some companies (e.g. Dell) put you on a plan and then fire you for cause with no severance. As Oracle tries to cut costs more and more, don't be surprised if severance is cut back or eliminated. Remember, you also lose health insurance on your termination day. You can apply for COBRA, but it is very expensive.

Be aware too that in some states, you cannot collect unemployment insurance. until you run out of severance. Its like that in my state.

In US/MA, a lot were 2 weeks plus one week for each Year Of Employment, plus accrued vacation. Though I heard some orgs got 2 weeks per YOE.

Also, while some may get a traditional severance package that pays out over time, most folks get "settlements", where you get a big lump sum in exchange for signing the separation agreement. If you get one of those, be aware that in many states you should be able to immediately start the process to begin collecting unemployment insurance.
