Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

Buyers going away end of August?

Anyone here about this? Heard that we’re about one year into the Bezos reign. Goodbye non essential jobs.

I haven’t heard anything but it seems that allot of stuff is being discontinued. Maybe they are cutting back on variety to get the data in order for auto ordering?

I don't know how the ordering would get done to the absurd level of controllable perfection that they expect. They have talked about getting rid of buyers for at least ten years now. Maybe the job could be done by zone by lower paid team members? Dairy would be tough to imagine without a dedicated buyer.

Some people here think we have the technology with R10 to go automatic, but I assure you that we are years from fully integrating everything to even make that possible.

I'm more confident that it will become more of a miserable place to work as time crunches on. I don't think any buyer in grocery is in danger.

It doesn't matter, Red Dead Redemption 2 comes out in October, all will be well then.

Any proof behind this or just random gossip and assumptions?

If you have been with the company as long as I have, then you would know that getting rid of buyers has been in the works for more than 6 years. Wfs has been so late on the auto replenishment switch but they have been moving towards that. My coordinators talked about this that long ago. Eventually the ATL or TL will be the one to check over orders and send them. Maybe with Amazon taking over, that technology has been 'fast tracked'considering how long they've been talking about doing it.

The current register system is capable of auto-replenishment. I'm surprised they haven't flipped the switch yet. Our store loses a lot of money on bad buying decisions. We have buyers in our store that likely rode the special bus when they were kids.

Buyers first. They will hire ATLs later once all the buyers are out of the company so they can hire them a b--cheaper. They have to do it that way because sympathetic team leaders will just promote the buyers.

They said this last year so thats why I left for a senior buyer job somewhere. Now I'm lazy and getting paid twice as much. I hope some of them get the same. If you're a buyer I suggest looking for a new job..NOW. It takes 1-4 weeks just to get a call back...If you ever do.

Would not be too surprised by this one. ALTs can do this job once they scale back OTS. Hopefully they gut the whole OTS team....fire them all and continue a loose OTS program with a couple of peeps.

Whatever they do....their is still room to trim this fat cow up.

Come on severance.....
