Thread regarding Chesapeake Energy Corp. layoffs

A Nice Surprise

I left voluntarily a few months ago after less than a year. I knew I was not vested in the 401K but to my surprise Fidelity mailed me that CHK had violated some IRS rule and low and behold I was entitled to their contributions as well. If you left or were let go, this should apply to all; check with Fidelity. I knew the IRS was good for something. BTW, best move I ever made leaving CHK. I was a toxic environment for me. Not saying that applies to all, just to me. Wishing all my friends there the best.

Yeah if you want your full vestment regardless of how long you have been here all you have to do is quit this year. This goes for everyone regardless if you hit your 5 year tenor or not. HR doesn’t want everyone to know because they don’t want to practice true transparency. Just another example of how we say one thing and do another.

Same here. Quit right before the layoffs, knowing my 401k wasn't fully vested. I just checked, and what do ya know, I can now withdraw the invested portion.

Jack weeds.

HR is the downfall of the company. They are the boss and they are smiling SOBs.

They are in partial termination of the 401k plan. 20% or more have left from the layoff and turnover. This entitles you to all of the unvested portion within the plan. Of course HR doesn't want everyone to know their 401K is fully vested if they leave or the turnover would go even higher.
