Then again, I would bet Putin would prefer Oracle. If there's a sudden override of the selection, that would be something to think about.

Oracle is going back to being just a DB company and will be fighting tooth and nail to keep DB footprint, which of course is a losing battle, which is why it bought applications companies in the first place. Conclusion: oracle is dying

HW?!? you seriously think Oracle is interested in that? think again (better).

HW Oracle sold to the 3-letters-agencies is mostly 2 to 4 years old. very few boxes in the last year. maintenance is for another year or 2, in best case. possibly much less.

Jedi project has a span of 5 years, it will take at least 2 years to just move the first services to AWS or Azure. everyone (inlcuding AWS and Azure) know very well that an HW refresh cycle is due in the next 1-2 years, but unfortunately Oracle wil sell close to nothing and so maintenance revenues will be close to 0 in 2 years from now.

SPARC is dead, pentagon will not buy any box with a sparc cpu inside.

Exa will be highly "discouraged" (and I'm being politically correct here) given the DB strategy of both AWS and Azure.

and that's the REAL point. Oracle is interested in maintaining pentagon footprint in Oracle DB. the REAL risk is that whoever will win, he will dismantle the Oracle DB installed base and correponding maintenance. THAT's the real pita of LE/SC. HW maintenance is just peanuts, we can lose that with no problem at all, noone will ever care.

nope, Oracle MUST enter the deal someway because of Oracle DB, otherwise we will really sink. what SC/LE are doing is just pure surviving, and expect more and more aggressive tactics from now on.

Oracle has sold tons of hardware to three letter agencies and the military. Oracle knows that projects like JEDI spell the beginning of the end for their gravy train. They know very well that the odds of getting any of the Cloud business is small, but if they can delay the project award, that translates into longer support revenues for the equipment that is already in place.

Bottom line: Only AWS has the mandatory security classifications for the cloud. The End.

Even throwing all that money at politicians, lobbyists, and the President won’t help them that Pentagon cloud computing contract.

Oracle should be ashamed given how much they already get from government contracts. It seems like they treat the government almost as badly as they treat other customers. :)

Maybe AMZN can help the government migrate away from all their Oracle controlled DBs.

Talk about a stupid move by oracle, when they lose the lawsuit, it will be public knowledge that their stuff is utter c..p and all the ways in which AWS is better. What a bunch of m.r.ns!

Oracle could get part of the JEDI contract involving PaaS (Posturing as a Service).

These days the highest job security can be found in Oracle's legal department.

ORCL doesn't have the 1/20th of the competition's cloud services, APIs, features, availability, or performance. Filing protests is just a diversion for its executives instead of facing the cold, hard facts about their band-aid portfolio that is five years behind.

Even the experts thought ORCL's odds of getting the JEDI contract were poor to begin with.
