The reason you cannot have a sensible conversation in Cisco is they either hide behind having to open a case, so you don’t have to speak to a person, or if your question is not in their manual, they don’t know what to say.... HR = Hopeless Robots!

yes absolutely no on checks . Who should check , well presumably HR who commissioned the thing in the first place.

However there is the problem, from what I have seen of HR they are incapable of thinking for themselves. There is much talk of diversity nowadays but it always boils down to having people who look different when what you want is people who think differently.

Unfortunately it seems to me that HR is dominated by group think. I have always found that conversations I have had with HR in which I have tried to raise an alternative point of view were either p--pooed or shutdown without a proper exchange of views. The last time I had this uncomfortable feeling was a conversation with the Moonies in the 1970's and then the Orange People in the 1980's. Its recognisable .

There's another problem:

a. gather focus group

b. collect results on satisfaction / dissatisfaction

c. remove a few things

d. present to management

e. propose solutions

f. implement solutions

g. declare problem solved

What's missing? Aside from the lying in "c", no one checks if the solutions of e-g actaully solve the problems from "b"!

@UzJzMXy-1pzp The problem with calling people trolls and accusing them of falsehoods is that there is plenty of evidence to support it. I have a copy of the URL of the recording that the poster mentions. When I get back home from my PTO, Imcan share it. I also participated in those focus groups. I have no idea who was behind the People Deal, but in one session from that company, they sort of indicated it was their program.

Magna Carta "the greatest constitutional document of all times – the foundation of the freedom of the individual against the arbitrary authority of the despot"

People Deal "the opposite of the above"

otherwise Orwell was right and 2 + 2 can = 5

Rubbish. The source / inventor of the people real was in fact female, yes English, but female. Showing you have made a lot of what you said up! I am not defending it as a program, because what it has evolved into is toxic, but it originally came from a well meaning place of good will.

TROLL alert!

Well, the "People Deal" comes from the fertile mind of a very imaginative English guy and his company called WMW - "Long Live Simple".

They've been running focus groups to get the pulse of the company. I participated in one of them. They produced a 30 min video on the "findings". Well, typical consultant trick. He played back to Cisco all the fluff that HE has told Cisco to tell all us poor workers. Showing just how brilliant the strategy has been, that we're replaying all the message back to HR.

The funny thing is that the focus groups (I've talked to a few others in other groups) consisted of many people complaining bitterly about LR's, toxic management culture and lack of career/performance. But did any of that come across in the "feedback readout"? No, not mentioned. All he was looking for was some s-xy soundbites he could replay back to HR (who hired him). Things like "Cisco puts the awe in awesomeness" (I made that you, you get the idea).

The ONLY thing he mentioned about LR was some strange comment that we seem to have "internalized LR's" - almost like we accept them. Boy, my focus group was VERY down on them, and others reportedly as well - but that never made the slides. These people are practicing group delusion.

I just wonder if the guy that wrote this article, Patrick Moorhead, has any connection to WMW? I bet there's a connection here somewhere. Anyway, WMW has a nice little earner going here...

This article popped up in my LinkedIn feed yesterday. I was LR'd in May 2017. I've moved on to a great company, but I was surprised at my own strong reaction to the mention of People Deal. And same as you all say, obviously no grade level 10 over 45 was interviewed...

LOL. I suspect a fair amount of money changed hands here. And not interviewing a single employee? To borrow a phrase from The Brady Bunch: "Sure, Jan."

I suggest we post on Forbes on that article.. was thinking about it when I was reading. the person who wrote this is a single person company who apparently did not even talk to any Cisco member..

this is beyond parody … the people deal …. " It’s a kind of a “magna carta” for the company, too"

Hee hee , I think a Cisco TV infotainment is in order .. a sort of european history mash-up with Chuckee as Louise 14th and Frani as Joan of Arc .. rescuing all the peasants from the horrid barons. Might as well toss that network intuitive midget in there as well … lordy lord !

Of course, you realize Cisco paid for this write-up, right. Standard PR stuff to make employees think they are valued when they really are not.

The article is as directionless as Cisco has become.
