Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

How do we keep jobs from being outsourced?

I'm curious, is there a way to stop outsourcing of jobs? Or is this our reality now?

Question? Is/has Intel replaced FTE with variable cost staff? Many hi-tech companies have terminated their FTE’s, but first, management stipulates conditions (packages/black listings)., that we fully train our replacements. Many companies are now re-hiring ex-employees as temp-contract help, variable cost labor. One might ask, where is the loyalty? Your thoughts?

@3wag - we do have a say in this, albeit small; don’t purchase their products. There are other ways too but, better left unspoken. Used to work @ Fortune 500, product was tops! Not anymore. Customer Svc outsourced. Educated myself on prod reveiwes. Reveiws very negative to say the least. Even had some of their junk. It was 86’d long time ago. Is any prod purfect? No! But., consumers do have a choice TG. Research the companie(s) before one decides to purchase. I did. For what it’s worth.

You can't stop it. American business supports outsourcing. Congress supports outsourcing. HR392 once passed will remove the country quotas and soon all green cards will be give away to Indians who will work for a fraction of your salary. Get used to flipping burgers.

I agree! Many tech companies black list WF’d employees. Then cry foul to Congress. We can’t get qualified people. BS! Many WF’d employees got canned cuz of their age! H1b’s get the sc-aps @ far lower wages, etc. Tech Co’s reap what they sow! The customer buys their garbage. Oooffff!

@1geh That's not true. There are reqs open and Americans do apply for them. The company or hiring manager just ignores the applications cuz they can get the better deal outsourcing. This practice just got to stop!

Outsourcing isn‘t even about cost anymore. When you have a job posting open for a month and not a single American applies for it, then you realize why tech companies cannot survive without outsourcing anymore.

here are some facts ... some of the lower cost geos have issues finding the right talent due to competition and many top engineers from those countries are already in the U.S., via their grad school (Penang and Bangalore). The low cost geos, Bangalore in particular, have a rotating door problem w/ Intel hires. Hard to keep them around for very long. This is a big detriment to IP and chip development. There are some good engineers in those geos, some of which were groomed in the U.S. and moved back home. But, many of them are mediocre and rely heavily on experts in the U.S. to debug, answer microarchitectural details, and do the more complicated work. They are struggling with some major projects they were entrusted with. It's all about the $ ... they are currently 4-5x cheaper than you.

Answer: Two part; (1) you can’t. (2) vote appropriately! 1-a) long as best shoring is allowed, low wages, theft of USA technology will suffer. 2-b) call and demand change! Our voice heard in number.

@dua This AI/ML talk is childish propaganda. At Intel, every additional head count increases the power and ego of the manager. They would hire the dumbest people and keep whining about not having enough resources. AI/ML brings no benefit to a manager at all, only risk. Intel would not be affected by AI and makes no impact in the field, training a million or so Indians.

The issue is not outsourcing it AI/ML as Usual Intel folks can't see past their nose.

WTF, what happened to free markets, freedom, and democracy. I would get rid of Minimum wage as well....true freedom. I should be able to hire anyone from anywhere.

Where do we get our CEO's like AMD, Goog, Microsoft, Tesla, Q, NVID, QCOM and many many more.

fat people can not compete

@gve Trump is talking about it, give him credit at least for that much. There is resistance from business and their Congressman representing the Silicon Valley, a Google supported patent lawyer from India. Chances were better with Mike Honda, but he is considered too old fashioned, not a slick new digital intercourser of this age.

Wasn't Trump supposed to stop this?

Intel solves problems by throwing head count on it. They will always look for places that is cheaper per throw. So yes, that is and has been the reality all along.
