Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Not over yet!

All the panic. All the worry. This company is far from going under. The powers that be will always save this company no matter how dire things look. Sears Will be around a long time but Kmart will not be. Sad to say but Sears will shed the Kmart stores and go on solo. This will make Sears a more stronger force in the retail world. All who work for Kmart need not worry because Sears will bring you on board with them. No need to panic.

@V3qNnMN-1cem Is this a guess or what makes you think that? The company is pretty much out of $$$ apparently. They have been delaying the 2nd quarter earnings I just can't see Sears continue after 2018. Rumor is their no money is left, big piece of debt is owed in October and the Kenmore deal doesnt seem like it is going through because of PBGC.

This week is going to be very interesting and see how its approached.

BK isn't happening this year. Probably in late spring early summer of 2019.

Or ESL would lease the rights to someone else in exchange for royalty payments.

Yes, 1PHV. When the BK comes, I could see ESL buying the rights to the Sears name and related intellectual property and setting up similar like sharper image, Montgomery Ward, etc. A venture capital firm is doing the same thing with Bon Ton and its related banners as we speak.

Delusional

That’s Sears’s and Kmart’s likely fate. That’s what’s happened with most major failures over the last several years, though those breads weren’t run so far into the ground before BK.

Montgomery Wards is still around. You can still buy things from their website.

It's owned by Colony Brands, Swiss Colony, Ginny's Seventh Avenue etc....and it's a website and mail-order catalog, it's not REALLY Ward's anymore

Bedpans and adult diapers are representative of the majority of Sears market share, you might actually make money if you use the Sears name to sell that stuff

If I personally were to buy the Sears name after bankruptcy for let's say $1 million and I operated a website called sears.com that only sold adult diapers and bed pans would you claim that Sears has survived??

I would say that Sears has not survived. Someone would just be continuing use of the name.

Not the same Montgomery Wards..... another company bought the name after MW went through bankruptcy. They slapped it on a website and tried to have a catalog for awhile. The catalog failed so now they just peddle a few things through the website....So technically Montgomery Wards did not survive. Somebody is just using the name to try and be relevant with it.

Surviving only on loans. This can't and won't go on forever.

I have a feeling something ominous is right around the corner, like 100+ store closures, not including the ones that they have already announced for closing, or maybe something worse, like bankruptcy.

How will Sears be around a long time when it is surviving now almost purely from loans which are doing nothing but increasing the company's debt....The company would have closed down a long time ago without these loans.

That's like saying put your head in the sand and put blind faith that things will be taken care of after the iceberg hit the Titanic......and which can go all the way back to the 1980's where people likely put blind faith in Sears corporate not allowing Sears to lose their position as #1 retailer in the US......

Let's see what the 2Q financials look like. Until we see some facts it's hard to say what is going to transpire over the next few months. If Sears did have good news one would think it would have been published by now to squash all the negative press we have been reading about.

Makes sense, Sears needs more employees based on all of their customers and success.

The delusions on this site are making me crazy. No one is buying Sears. No one. Bezos can buy Kohls for 13 billion or Target for 46, both numbers are chump change to him. What on earth does Sears offer him?
