Thread regarding Xerox Corp. layoffs

Stick it out, people

I know it must be very tempting to quit right now, but trust me when I tell you those on top would jump for joy if you did that.

You'd be saving Xerox and in turn them severance money.

Why not wait it out and let them lay you off? Start preparing for it, start feeling out the job market, but stay until you have that nice safety net to help you through.

Just don't do them any favors.

You could also stick it out only to find that everyone around you is let go and now you get to pick up the slack and won't be let go at all. Xerox leadership simply does not care if you stay or go, they're as fried and burned out as everyone else, even more so.

It's a Zombie corporation full of tenured people hanging on to either retire or get every cent of potential severance and newbies trying to gain enough experience on their resume to use as a stepping stone into something else.

Yep, the folks who had more than 12 years all of a sudden being bumped to 12 years max severance, put the hurt into a bunch of folks (some I know have been here over 35 years.) Severance is an option that companies give, it is not a requirement.

With the rumor on downgrades of D05 who no longer have managerial responsibility that may mean loss of APIP as well.

Think of it this way...the longer you stay in your job at Xerox with a paycheck is time used wisely to prepare. So what if they change the severance. Do the math. If you are kept on payroll until December 31, think of it as 3.5 months "severance."

Most companies hire in the beginning of the new year when they know which projects have been funded. If you blow 3.5 months of compensation not preparing for the worst - shame on you. I'm trying really hard to sock away one-third of my monthly paycheck plus I took on an evening job teaching as a fallback.

Any scenario s---s but at least there is "some" unemployment compensation.

Best case scenario, find a job that will let you start in 2-4 weeks ( if you know for sure that your end date is about to hit). Otherwise, it's a gamble. You could be a sitting duck, riding it out and then policy is changed again to ZERO severance and the next day you get your notice. Everyone has to make that decision, but don't think policy couldn't be changed again.
