Thread regarding Xerox Corp. layoffs

I haven’t done any real work in hours

I have no plans to today. When your work is not appreciated and ppl treat you like dog snot, why bother. Just surfing and working on resume and such. Weekend is almost here. It’s fun watching management freak over sales though. I amuse myself by making them think things will be better, but they will not be.

Bob: If you would, would you walk us through a typical day, for you?

Peter Gibbons: Yeah.

Bob Slydell: Great.

Peter Gibbons: Well, I generally come in at least fifteen minutes late, ah, I use the side door–that way Lumberg can’t see me, heh–after that I sorta space out for an hour.

Bob Porter: Da-uh? Space out?

Peter Gibbons: Yeah, I just stare at my desk, but it looks like I’m working. I do that for probably another hour after lunch too, I’d say in a given week I probably only do about fifteen minutes of real, actual, work

Xerox is on life support...The heart and soul

of this company has been “OUTSOURCED”

Xerox has been “Benchmarked”.

Can you say SEARS...???

Count me in. I am interviewing. Life outside of Xerox seems great.

Yeah, I for one have updated my resume and handed it to my recruiter. The morale here is just straight depressing and no one really seems to care very much.

The OP is not alone. The problem is management has been treating employees like c-ap. There is no motivation to do any more than absolutely necessary. Yes we all have been dusting off our resumes, but we are not going to quit until we get the job we want. Management had to understand that their decisions would have consequences. Just like our decisions do. What they have done has demotivated employees, they either care or don't. If they care, they will do something about it. John V is full of c-ap and I will not buy into it. Until they start respecting people, many employees are not going be motivated to work very hard.

OP, you make me sick.

There are plenty of people at all levels making a difference and being held back with people like you with your foot on the parking brake.

If you don't like it, go and foist your miserable selfish attitude somewhere else - you're stealing from your coworkers..

The apathy stems from management treatment of its employees in my opinion. The employees were once great employees but the outsourcing, inconsistent treatment, cutting of benefits, and seeing great people get irif’d is very damaging to the employee psyche. It’s apathy from those early and later in their careers. I’ve seen hundreds of millennials attitudes come and go. It always ended with the same result. If you aren’t going to respect and treat your employees well, you shouldn’t be in business.

I spent my career in engineering. I worked at a couple of small companies and eventually got into Kodak. After a few years there I was extremely disappointed with the short sightedness of the place and left for an opportunity at Xerox. Great people, great work, great benefits, good pay, and hard work was rewarded. It was a great company up until about 15 years ago when things started to erode. I got out of there 5 years ago. The continual stress of IRIFs and losing good people to VRIFs and not replacing them and the maturity of xerography made it a bad place to be. Get out, there is life after Xerox!

It’s very disheartening for someone who worked hard up until the day they were let go to read about someone who is still there and is just taking advantage of the company. Unfortunately, many decisions are made based on which jobs are being eliminated rather than who is working and who is not.

I was a long term employee 30 plus years.

Over that period I worked in 3 different

divisions .The people I worked with were

smart, hard working and extremely loyal

to the company. When I started the name Xerox was “Magical.”Overtime this

all went south. Each of the Divisions I worked

in were decimated by layoffs,outsourcing,

benefit reductions and no raises. Those remaining were asked to do more and

more with less .In some cases people were asked to train their outsourced replacements...Management attitude was take it or leave but don’t expect things to improve.Be glad you still have a job!

When I was let go I was doing the jobs of

four different people that had been rolled into one...Morale was rock bottom.

I don’t condone it , but I fully understand

the attitude of those still there .I wish them the best as it seems most of the major layoffs always occur approaching the Holiday season.

There is very little pride left at Xerox. It’s been poorly managed for so long that it’s hopeless.

If it wasn’t for corrupt and manipulative behavior at the management level, it could have some value.

Those who are on the client side know the sad state of affairs and how employees are getting the short end of the stick every day.

Icahn is right to spit and auction the company. It’s the best way to deal with it’s poor management.

I have only been with Xerox for a bit over 2 years, but I have observed the behavior described by OP, and it enrages me to see people admit to it with pride. For every month I have been with the company I have poured myself into the work I do, as do my teammates. If you're going to intentionally slack off, move on from the company and find something you like doing. All you're doing is hurting your friends and coworkers if you stay.

Let me be clear: slacking off and/or passively destroying the company from within is not "sticking it to the man" or anything close to it. The people who are going to feel the hurt are people like you and me - normal people without a golden parachute or backup. You can't touch Icahn, you can't touch his henchmen, but you can do the best in your role and carry your weight and be proud.

I pity all of you who are burdened by that defeatist outlook on life. OP, you would have failed miserably in any company and in any role with that attitude, and it would have been (indeed it is) entirely your fault. How can people like you admit you are dead weight while being simultaneously surprised that your friends are getting The Ax?

Shame.

I'm not going to pretend like I think Xerox will regain it former glory or anything like that, but there are still those of us who are good at what we do, like it, and are being productive. To the rest of you who operate without integrity or regard for your (lack of) actions, go away. Leave the company. Thank you.

I have been a top performer in sales for my entire 32 year career and have taken pride in my success and Xerox. To see that people are not working and admit they have not done so in years is very upsetting. Perhaps Xerox carried too many people not pulling their weight is the reason we are in the position we are right now. Your comments actually validate that some of the actions taken are needed. There are market segments that are still thiving and successful such as production color and GC. We have been lean and mean supporting the company for years. How can you admit that you are not working while many of us are trying to help the company especially now? I would say that you all that admit to not working should be ashamed of yourselves. Xerox can be great but we need to eliminate entitled people, it is not fair to the rest of us that are selling and working very hard to make a difference supporting you that are not. I would guess you are not sales people and do not generate or contribute to the bottom line. Xerox still has great products such as iGen that is leap years ahead of the competition we just have too much SAG with people we have to carry like yourselves that are not working!

To the TTFN guy. I would not need to know you IQ. I can tell what kind of employee you would be with your illiterate sentences. If you worked for me you would be fired. No company needs slackers like you. Good luck with your so called career.

OP...kinda sh--ty of you. You have no pride or is it all self loathing. I am retiring in 2 weeks. Been there 29 years. There during the hey days and through the less than stellar days. But I am leaving on my own terms. Anyone can leave on their own terms. They just to need to adjust their terms. After the next group leaves (includes me) my area that will be a total of 11 people, 5 IRIF'd'. There was a reason those 5 were let go. They were underperformers and sadly, they deserved to be let go. My group of 6 decided to retire for purely financial reasons. We all announced within the last 3-4 weeks. Not one of us has screwed the dog since announcing. We want to leave our group in the best condition we can. The group and the company will lose north of 140 years of Xerox experience and culture. it may be a sin but having pride in what you do is important and helps let you believe you did the best you can and you can tell your next employer you will do the same for them.

Hahaha. You’ve got it! That’s what we are all not doing. It’s a real life “office space”.

And to the person suggesting we would tell a future employer, I think they would determine your iq rather quickly. TTFN.

Guess it all comes down to how much integrity you possess. Just because a company is not doing well, does not mean you should just throw in the towel personally... definitely a way to develop some bad habits that will carry over into your next job.

Plus I'm pretty sure if you were to admit this while interviewing for other jobs to potential employers, they would blow you off, because you let other entities determine how successful you are as a person...

It doesn’t seem to matter if one works or doesn’t work in this company anymore.

So many chains of command broken due to layoffs.Management clueless as to getting

things done...Too many good people

let go ....To bad ...so sad!

Same here! I had the most unremarkable and wasteful week EVER! And I got paid for it! Zowweeee! By my best estimates, I worked maybe 2-3 actual hours. For the entire week my manager never stopped by, never came out of his room to rally the troops...never sent any emails other than forwarding, "....so and so left Xerox after [xx] years of service and we thank so and so for their hard work and dedication to Xerox. And please welcome so and so to the team. ..." yawn. A lot of nothing burger activity going on. Lots of water cooler talk.

I'm starting to get bored. Can only surf the internet for so long. But I'm socking up my egg nest and looking for another job. Got to milk the clowns for all they are worth. They really burned so many good and decent people.
