I guess this is where work ethic comes in. I have worked for this company for 38 years. I have worked hard and worked well, I have walked to work in blizzards, power outages, terrorist attacks and have done my best, always. I am leaving a monumental part of my life behind, say what you will about that but this place always mattered to me, not the people in charge but my part in building this company. You can minimize that ll you want but I will work hard and do my best until I walk out the door. Not because I think I owe Verizon anything, but because that's just who I am and no matter what they do, I won't change that.

I’m still working my behind off but only 8 hrs a day and no weekends.

Being in a support role, and caring about my fellow vteamers, I give my all. Everyone is doing more with less and under a lot of pressure from the idi-t mgmt who has no clue what happens at ground level.

Where I slack off is not wasting time on meaningless webex calls, mindless training, and/or “white glove” bs tasks listed some j@ckwad director’s spreadsheet.

We’re in it together.

"You clearly have no pride in doing a good job for the self satisfaction."

That is not always possible. From time to time, at least in parts I've been in, there are sudden needs for tons of grunt work "Give me a list of the top 140 enterprise customers with MNS with CISCO devices but without managed security, and their device new adds for the last 18 months. We need it by tomorrow" These are all ad-hoc request, different each time, and while the first time (OK, two times) there might be pride in discovering where the needed data is recorded, working out the formats and writing the query, after too many all-nights doing this, pride goes away. Especially if you are told too often the next day "Oh, turns out we didn't need it"

I say good riddance to you. That's not the kind of attitude any employer is going to want. You clearly have no pride in doing a good job for the self satisfaction.

I'd argue that you'll get the most fulfillment out of your remaining time by working hard and taking pride in your efforts. The way to do small things is the way you do all things.

Not working is extreme, but I don't feel any obligation to push myself for anything especially if its not also benefiting me. Just do the 8 hr work and spend time on my own skills

“Also if you slack off they have a right to fire you. Don't be stupid”

In many places they don’t need any reason what so ever.

Now it would look bad if they fired volunteers without cause so do show up and do work.

I’m not going to kill myself for anyone at Verizon though with unpaid overnights or weekends. Now if someone we work with outside of VZ needs something I’ll bend over backwards for them ahead of Verizon because I may deal with them in the future and need all the friends I can get.

"Anyone with 20+ years can safely be assured they will “get picked”. Target demographic."

Hoping that this is the case, but since I don't fall within the IT/Infosys group, I'm trying not to get my hopes up too high. Wireline is a slow, painful death.

"What if they don't give it to you? You ain't there yet. Don't burn your bridge."

Agreed. Just because you volunteered doesn't mean you will be getting it. You're done until you're done.
