Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Houston Cafeterias

Do any of you layoff victims miss the 1400 or 1500 cafeteria? Food is pretty good there and prices are lower than anywhere downtown. You like 1400 or 1500 better?

I'm sort of surprised sometimes at how many employees appear to be lounging around the dining room, doing nothing, at 8:30 in the morning. Not enough work or just not motivated?

In an office environment, it doesn’t matter if you’re fat and ugly and eat like a pig. It’s all dog eat dog anyway so good graces and sophisticated manoeuvres appear vacuous to the great unwashed.

-2eju, You’re a good observer. Most people at Chevron think of themselves and don’t care too much about anyone else. Have you noticed how oblivious and standoff-ish they are as they cross paths in the hallways and common areas every day? Hardly any comradery among them and their closest coworkers are merely acquaintances. Highly paid people but very low individuals on the social scale.

It’s a rip-off unless you take a dollar off and then it’s not? Wow, you people don’t earn much. I bet you don’t even leave a tip in that case.

The food is good in both, so I switch back and forth. I find it good food at a fair price, and am willing to pay the slightly high price over a bag lunch I would need to prep myself....after all I make a good salary. From what I am told they are required to break even, not make a profit. That said, being Chevron I am sure they pay more than minimum wage for a service industry job, which is good. The only times I see the workers sitting around is near the end of the lunch hour, when I am sure the prep chefs are done with the meal. Like none of the petrotechs sit on their a-- at the end of a job completed. Some of you guys need to pull your head out and have a bit more emphaty for your fellow minions.

@1adr, I understand Chevron used to subsidize the cost of meals in their cafeterias, but not so much anymore. They might have eliminated all subsidies for all I know. Either way, bag your own lunch or pay for the convenience of a quick lunch.

I always thought it was a bit of a rip off. The food was good, but the prices were too high. Knock off a dollar or two and it was worth it.

My 75 inch waistline tells me that either cafeteria is fine. The main thing is to throw as much as I can down my throat in my lunch hour.

Typical Houston employees are hanging around doing nothing because they're useless. Nothing new here. Move along.

The food in 1400’s cafeteria is much better than the 1500 location. The employees are more friendly and customer focused as well.
