Following the anouncement made here in Geneva. I would like to highlight a specific situation that we have with our fellow colleagues who are contractors for 5 to 6 years.

In a nutshell the customer admin contractors are in a very specific situation as they are integrated into the TR/Refinitiv workforce for years. They work in the same teams than regular employees, sharing the same supervisors, performing the same tasks , participating in the same projects and working the same hours. They also have the same badges, office equipment and supplies from the company.

BUT on the other hand there are many differences :

  • important salary gap between permanent employees and contractors.

  • Retirement plan discrepancy (2nd pilar as it is called in Switzerland).

  • And last but not least the possible package contractors might get if they are asked to leave, according to the Swiss Law their agency is not obliged to give them anything (or a month salary if I understood it well) disregarding how long they have been working here. While permanent employees will get packages depending of their time in the company and their age.

This reminded me this post on reuters.com years ago : https://www.reuters.com/article/businesspropicks-us-findlaw-dont-treat-c/dont-treat-contractors-like-employees-idUSTRE53063S20090401

My pledge was to not forget about them.

A very expensive place for admin and helpdesk? Probably cheaper to have them in London......most likely India though

@sch i read here on some other thread that they have already sold the building so they might as well close it all down eventually!

It’s not a surprise ... high glossy salaries do not look good on the spreadsheet of Refeninitiv !

Many banks in Geneva have made cuts in the past years so fewer customers so to speak.. if it’s true that they have axed so many jobs than they may as well just close the office down.

70% shocking... Not good for a place like Geneva which is a very important place for financial markets (commodities, Hedge funds, private banking... all in the top three in the financial markets sectors) what do you think as a customer? Geneva was a showcase.

Job might be lost but people can hopefully find other opportunities within Refinitiv, if they wish. Wish them good luck and respect.
