Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Pennsylvania Kmarts had been surviving unscathed through store closings the last several rounds. California was hit a few years ago with a lot of closures but avoided the decimation the Pacific Northwest, Florida, and parts of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states got in 2017. Western New York was brutalized again. Kmart is already gone in the Rochester market, and will now be one store in Buffalo (with three closing in the area) and one in a Syracuse suburb.

I know all the Kentucky ones listed are still open. Looking at this list will leave Kentucky with no more Sears and only 2 Kmarts left in the entire state, Somerset and Elizabethtown.

Some states pretty much escaped this round unscathed. No stores of either Sears or Kmart closing in AK, DE, HI, MS, MT, RI, UT, VT, or WI (I know Kmart has already left some of those states, but last I knew Sears still had at least one location in all 50 states). CA (17 total) and PA (11 total) bore the brunt of this round

Sorry, you are right. Usual closure is 90 days (three months). Now they want 45 days. Have been up since 7 reading bankruptcy documents... too early and too Monday. :-)

Here is the link to the bankruptcy document that includes the store closing list you see on the main page. It explains store closing procedures and attaches a list of impacted stores.

The filing said that these stores will begin liquidating soon and will be closed by the end of the year. They usually take about 3 months to close a store but they have a fast track program to do it in about half the time. It looks like these will be done very quickly. They will promise you your banked vacation, personal days and severance, but don't plan on actually receiving it. They owe a lot more money than they have in assets and it is under court supervision now, so you are likely screwed.

To be clear, this list and the accompanying links are filings with the Court asking it for permission to exit leases immediately. Some stores that may be closed already are at properties where Sears is still paying something on an existing lease, even though the store is gone.

Sears has different entities in its corporate structure that technically own or lease the property. Each has to submit a motion independently. These PDF files are not easy to transfer into this site, so please follow the links to review the lists, which are usually at the end of the document.

Don't know about any others, but the West Seneca, NY and Niagara Falls, NY locations on this list are not closed and were not previously announced as closing, so it seems legitimate.

Also scrutinize the attachment to this document for your store (many of these stores were closed but this is Sears notifying landlords they are abandoning their leases for good -- some closed store locations are on properties where Sears is still paying lease fees of some kind). If your store is on this list, it's a clear sign it is closing:

Something doesn't seem correct with this list. I'm fairly certain some of these locations are already closed or have already been in the process of closing for awhile now. Can anyone else confirm this?
