Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

How are they determining who gets laid off?

Anyone have any insight what they are looking at to decide who goes and who stays? Anything specific to M&S is appreciated.

Azz Kissers and Yes Men stay for sure....Lol. Everyone else (especially the higher paid ones) can be walked off property at the drop of a hat.

I mean really...what good is an employee that doesn't boost the Bosses Ego atleast 5 times a day!?!

Seems to be a combination of both performance and job eliminations. Some jobs were abolished like those in Roseville.

It's not performance based, it's pay based. If you need to cut payroll costs, would you get rid of the guy making 50k or the one making 65k? It's simple.

If you are one of the highest paid people with your job title, you better brush up on your resume.

Lay off the higher paid employees, replace with lower paid employees when they realize they cut too much. That's how it'll go.

2 years ago it was performance based with a small percentage of position based elimination. Last year it was reverse. Primary it was the position eliminated and not by performance because the thought was the majority of the low performers were already eliminated. There were several individuals walked out who were on the the “list” for being strong performers.

Legally they would offer a severance to reduce the risk of being sued. If you sign the paper and take the money and stock you surrender the right to sue. If there is nothing on the table why would anyone sign the paper. The Law department and Lance need the signed paper.

A couple years ago they offered low performers a severance. The severance last year offered was higher because they were not considered low performers and they could not treat them the same or less.

Lance is made of stone. He doesn’t care about anyone but himself and $$$$. Time for him to leave.

It’s performance based. The decision makers had to provide a list of people (low performers) to cut, and a list of jobs to cut.

They usually get this wrong, but the target would be the POS employees.

The layoffs have started! Today they let go of the Trainers in Marketing in Sales. Not sure how many and if they were given any type of severance. How sad.

Impossible to tell this time for sure. Years ago they went with the lower performers. The last few times it seemed that they were cutting positions and the people assigned to them without regard to their performance. I can’t imagine they want another HR disaster like they had with the last cut so maybe this one will be more humane. Hopefully they will push for early retirements to ease the pain a bit.
