Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Oracle does no real innovation on acquired software

Oracle acquires companies with the idea that no innovation will ever be required. Just maintain them into their graves. No real innovation is ever done on acquired software. Some integration might happen, then nothing.

Oracle is a 1957 Edsel with acquired contraptions appended in haphazard fashion all over it. The whole company needs to be sc-apped.

Couldn’t agree more with the OP. This post was posted as a reply on a different thread ( @VCzBcoh-1wcc )

I had a very early version of the SunCloud bits. It was crude and you still needed to do plenty of things by hand, but it was FAST and configured right off bare metal onto vanilla servers. It was easy to set up and easy to create custom configurations. killing it was a very poor decision.

Larry also said cloud wouldn't be a thing and killed all of Sun's cloud efforts during the acquisition. Bummer he got that one wrong and can't catch up.

In the pre-oracle days, SunRays were in the VA, and some of the larger hotel groups. I remember taking the support calls. Larry threw the idea on the trash heap twice. First, the network computer, which was probably ahead of its time. Then SunRay and ovd. I don’t know why he is considered to be this great business genius. More like a one trick pony.

A Prime example of that is Sunray/OVD. IF they had a clue they could have made inroads into banks, Credit Unions, Auto dealerships, etc etc. Instead you have IBM or Dell in these spaces. and a dead product.

With an I- banker and a depraved used car salesman as co- CEOs, what else would you expect. Neither has a clue about either customers era or technology.

Oracle are just an acquisition vehicle. They purchase mature products and existing customer bases and sustain them until sales drop then kill it.

What was the last thing they developed from scratch - the database?!
