The more the date of the final decision approaches, the more nervous I get. Just when I think I made the final decision, I start thinking about it and a new factor emerges that changes my mind once again. Anybody else having similar issues?
I envy those for who this is an easy decision, I truly do.

@1bkf, in your own mind you may believe your "skills are in fine shape" but, should you consider proper spelling as one of those "skills" that you believe that you possess, you may need to reassess your entire view of your self-awareness, and to brutally honest to your own self.

I know many feel this way but if they only didn’t have the 60 week cap it wouldn’t even be question. That would get me, and I’m sure many others close enough or to where we need to be.
I know there are those that would call that greedy but it’s just getting you closer to where you could comfortably hit that button. I believe that 3 weeks, no cap was actually a consideration because I have heard it from July until September. I guess they hope that people who aren’t quite ready will jump too.
Same here, back and forth, back and forth. I keep hearing that Clash song in my head - "should I stay or should I go?" In my early 50's, 18 yrs in. Leaning toward clicking the button. And, we have a week to rescind that - if you want. I just think that the wire line side of the business is on life support, with no real plans to revive the patient. The job market is good, too. Think positive thoughts. YOU do have skills; YOU are marketable. Take a chance on YOU! I'm looking at this severance as a HUGE gift, and I think I'd be kicking myself if I stay, and get let go next year (for less money, and probably 30 days off payroll). All of this still does not make it an easy decision... fear of the unknown I guess. But, thinking of jumping. Hoping for a later release date, but who knows. VZ holds all the cards there.

I'm only nervous about how I'll feel if I'm NOT chosen.
You should be nervous there eliminating whole departments are not telling anyone.
One thing to realize for the retained employees is that the wireline is coming to an end. It will anyway happen if not now. May be you lose the best choice if you dont take it now or You may survive for few more months/ years if you dont opt for SVP now. The option that some of the folks got for Infosys rebadging is not better choice either. You will regret your decision no matter what if you stay or if they let you go from Infosys. May be the bitter choice would be to go instead of thinking I wish I did that. Life will move on and we will for sure have better life. Job market is also good.
I have a feeling there are going to be a lot of people who decided to stay after the deadline saying I wish I took it but it’s too late then. If you’re in your 50s still far from social insecurity but getting old to be in the job market also. I guess what it comes down to is how financially set you are at this point in your life. If you were responsible and saved for retirement you should be sitting pretty. If not then you probably should be staying.
I am glad you posted this. Everybody should feel nervous about their decision regardless which one you make it will be a life and career changer. I keep reviewing different scenarios in my mind. Take the package and land a job 1st qtr 2019. Win Win. Take the package and search for a job for quite a while; Win maybe lose. Don't take package and get RIF'd; Lose Lose, Don't take package survive RIF, etc.. My gut is telling me they are looking for deep cuts. Historically the better the package the greater the reduction they are looking for. This is a very good package considering others. I would like to know what they want to reduce by. I heard from past practices 2/3 to 3/4 is realistic. When over 44k employees received the package the numbers to reduce are significant. Stay positive everyone and what ever decision you make will be the right one. Good luck to all !!
I totally feel your pain. I am not even 40 yet but I have 15 years..... I am invested I feel like. Great health insurance, 5 weeks paid vacation, decent 401K figure. It's a tough choice but I'm going with what my gut tells me. Time to break the golden handcuffs. Good luck.
On the positive note, there is about 15 people who responded to you in about 6 hours - I think this shows solidarity and you are not alone in this. This is on top of 1000+ that got familiar with your dilemma. That does not help you directly but at least tells you are not just a number - people think and feel about your case - that's solidarity, sometimes we need that as well.

OP - this is my situation as well. I change my mind every 3 hours. The more I think and calculate the more indecisive I become. I think it's normal in a 50/50 situation (and I truly think that there is no win situation here, but I also think there is no lose situation here - no matter what, i can always move on - somehow things always work out as long as one is healthy).
Same position here late 50's and most likely a career ender. if they had just not limited the 3 weeks to 60 weeks total. I change my mind daily, so i guess i will decide on the last day.

It is a common feeling because this offer has taken any differentiation you felt like you earned via your performance and stripped it away to put a simple number on it next to a line item on a spreadsheet. The fact that loyalty would not be rewarded if you decide to stay to be part of the "V Team" and get RIF'd for 1/2 the first offer is also compelling. I am working through it with significant prayer. If I know I am fulfilling God's plan for me, then there will be no wrong or bad decision. That provides a peace and comfort unlike anything else I could gain on my own.
It’s all timing. Great offer. If you are not ready stick around and see where you land after the reorgs. You will likely survive until this time next year.
Be grateful you have a choice this time around. Many before you were laid off with no choice. Many after you will be as well.
I think this is a tremendous opportunity to get out of this dying telecom business. I accepted the offer and hope they give to me. I am excited for my future and ready to get out of the Verizon rat race.
I thought it would be a relief but it is if actuall more stressful tHan my job has been.
Things will change so that might be good or bad. Sure there may be more work but I survived 06 and moved on to another group.
Leaving is a career ender for me. I have to restart from scratch and will be lucky to get a stable job least of all one with good pay.
I think I got some new ulcers.
If you have a home.. kids.. people that count on you.. This is NOT AN EASY decision! I've made my mind up to leave, because I would hate to stay and wonder everyday if I will get a tap on the shoulder. I'm not one of those people who are mad at the company for what's going on, it's been a good ride. I'm 18 years in, and saying hey.. time for a change.... Good luck with your decision folks! Hell the thing is you could click the button and they could tell you go sit down, we still need you. You never know.
Same here....kids in high school, mid 50's. Won't be easy to find a good job but at least the package will buy time.
