Things are out of whack today for the working-class, and getting worse.
When I was a kid (60’s - 70’s) my blue collar immigrant Dad’s lone salary allowed him to afford a two-family home, as well as to put the whole bunch of us through Catholic grammar and high school, while Mom was always there for us.
Today both my wife and I wirk our butts off, miss far too much of our childrens lives, and, even combined, are not achieving the upward mobility of my Dad’s lone salary.
Something is not right.
My guess, we’re working harder, both Moms and Dads, but we’re getting less, while our family lives disintegrate because, the wealth we’re supposed to be achieving via our toiling is instead trickling up, to tight-wad, already financially-sound, business owners, stockholders, executives, hedge fund managers, and day traders.
Many of these folks can point to nothing concrete at the end of the day that they have accomplished that is physically recognizable as an accomplishment, or that has aided anything or anyone.
At least, at the end of my day, I can say, “those 25 people have Internet, phone, and TV, and they can continue to be entertained, make money, or continue their studies because of my efforts, because of something I did today (unlike my day-trading or hedge-fund managing neighbor societal leech).
