Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Why not Union cuts?

If they’re serious about this... why not start furloughing agreement people? Half of them abuse Family Medical Leave and are pretty well useless anyway... start cutting UPC clerks and Crew Dispatchers... they make more than some is the non agreement and are about the least productive people I have ever known... most would be Walmart greeters if they didn’t land these jobs 20 yrs ago.

To whom ever is complaining about RRT, that’s your social security payment, everyone pays it, infact, non agreement pay in more % than AG employees to help pay for spousal benefits. If you don’t know enough about your government paid benefit, quit b--ching about it. RRT will be around much longer than SSC, so be thankful for it.

Everyone is at each other's throats and I am sitting here DEMANDING to know why low level lackey's here at UPC are called managers. We aren't managers, we don't manage anyone. We are non-agreement.

To Just some Guy,

From what I’m reading the OP wasn’t referring to TE&Y but rather the clerks at HQ and HDC - the accounting/timekeeping/CRDS. Those clerks gave a proven track record of abusing FMLA in the work environment, complaining about working 8 hour days, and yes, complaints about free stuff - food, cups, shirts, etc.

There’s no doubt in anyone’s mind that TE&Y keep the RR moving but some of the other clerk positions are questionable. Those positions are what need to be questioned, especially when you see these clerks working 8 hr days but being away from their desk doing god knows what for half hat shift. Or they refuse to answer a call bc it’s “not their region”. That’s the kind of waste that needs examined. Yes we have non agreement people like this too but from a lot of our experience with the clerks locally - we have a lot of clerks like this too.

I am a current union clerk and I see this & can admit it.

Easy to bad mouth the ACTUAL RAILROADERS from the cheap seats. Talk about Your long lunches etc etc. Well while I'm on the engine 12 hrs with no access to not food I'll shed a tear for ya. How about when I'm working 40 plus weekends a year while you chill at home. Or every single holiday that you automatically get off. Me and my brothers and sisters will keep moving freight. Abuse family leave funny hearing that from folks who work an 8hr day in climate controlled comfort. Sure why not b!ame the most productive workers in all of the transportation industry. Do have any idea who makes these (oftentimes ridiculous) t-plans work? I'll give you one guess. I've been in te&y 21 years with nothing but record profits that stuff doesn't happen by accident the boots on the ground do that. Overpaid?how about you try having valid work/pay rejected on a fairly regular basis then go through a two year process to get money rightfully earned. And to top it off now many of y'all chair sitters have lost brothers and sisters due to dangerous work conditions? From where I sit( you know,on an actual train) most of the screw ups come.from the top down.

I'm an agreement worker..not by choice...and I work more hours and more days than at least 95% of the non-agreement people in my department. Please think before grouping people as union or non-agreement or whatever term you want to use to make it easy on yourself. Most of the time, companies should do a better job of trimming the 'useless fat'..and at U.P. there is useless fat on agreement and non-agreement side. I see management people get raises automatically at least once a year and don't even get in 40hrs work..

You can eliminate the union that easily. The collective bargaining agreement, the WARN act and the railway labor act offer various protections. They will be here for a minute.

I’ve worked with union people who wouldn’t answer a ringing phone two feet away from them because it “wasn’t their job” but I’ve also worked with non-agreement people who stretch the rules as far as they can. UP can’t just show them the door on Friday due to CBAs and their governing rules, but you can bet that Precision Railroading will handle that in the long run.

Why not union cuts?? How about no union? Union needs to go they think 8 hrs means 6 and still complain about work. Get rid of it!! talk about production Union Pacific would get more production and meet service needs if these employees were paid per hour worked and let go if don’t work too many Union games. Start over with no union employees. All these hoops to jump through if this if that stupid. Run a business without union and you’ll meet customer needs and meet production. Save money pay good workers get rid of slackers solve your problems instead of waiting to cut again next year. And this is not meant to slam the hard working employees that actually do there job and should have there job and be paid well for it, this is meant to say that you don’t need a third party to take your money you work for!! and uppr should not kiss Union A.. either get rid of it and just run a good company with good paid employees and see how turns out. Eventually this will happen when common sense kicks in and people realize they are paying a third party for nothing. And making contracts with third party for nothing only winner is third party😊😂

There are plenty of managers who abuse the same lunches and fmla. Don’t let that collective bargain agreement make you think agreement workers are that different. I have worked on both sides of the fence and started as a crew caller. Don’t turn on each other during this. Plus if they cut too much, the union will call a foul. Has anyone discussed the Warn act? And this will or will not impact that?

  • The Union has little to no Involvement.

  • Little to No Family Time

  • Union Dues/ RR Retirement/ 401k/ & Job Insurance all take a bite out of your check.

  • Mediocre Management

  • Good Ol boy system

  • Fighting for a Job position daily

  • Seniority Bullying (Low man on the totem pole fights to make money)

  • Corporate claim rejection on finished jobs

  • No 401k matching. Only given to management.

  • RR Retirement is only given to your Spouse upon death, if your Spouse dies it doesn't go to your kids.

Agreement workers aren’t in this... unless they get cut and go back on their seniority... it’s no secret they abuse what they are given especially at HDC.. but then lunch and they say... that’s not what I wanted... not thank you... they’re an entitled bunch that needs to see what the real world is like.

Please do not turn on each other. Neither agreement workers or agreement workers wanted this. I know its a tough time but remember we are all in this together.
