There will be many 55+ that take the package. They have been reducing headcount for quite a while through geographic consolidation. Go to NJ. or Texas, or you don’t have a job. Folks with ties to an area, friends and family don’t want to disrupt their life to follow a sinking ship. Moving many Ops folks have been moved to Ashburn, where you get a table with 5 others. No privacy, crowded, and conf calls are a problem. So is being cramped in with individuals that may have, er, less than stellar personal hygiene. This will ramp up if they don’t make the numbers.

If you volunteer to go and vz doesnt contest your unemployment claim you may get it. Being pension eligible plays in too, too complex for here tho. You will probably have to fight for it if you think you are deserving. U will learn about the government as you go too.
For Forner VZ Wireline employees who took a severance in New York - were you approved for - NY unemployment pay ?

OP seems to have a manager that requires them to be in the facility... Those of us with 20+ years typically WFH at this point.
The only new variable is the 58.333% increase in standard severance package... (and those that are going to post that it's going to go to 2 weeks, or whatever c-ap you're pushing this week, F you and the horse you rode in on.. you're another troll)
So bottom line- do you want to work for Verizon, or would you rather work somewhere else?
maybe if you have a dead-end position that can't transfer anywhere else... then that's another matter... But those of us with marketable skills, in markets where they can lead to new jobs- that's what i boils down to.
I'm sure there are other "experiences" at VZ, but that's the way I see it.
They started gutting my building in TX and the floor is emptying due to infosys change.
I do wonder how much better it is here than say Florida where they moved finance.

uyy - I am with you. For those of us who have not had the luxury of being with a company for an extended amount of time (10,15, 20) years, we know the drill and are numb to the companies actions as we've been trained "through experience" that we will not work for 1 company and retire "not in this day & age" so we keep our skills sharp as we know what the real world is like. Unfortunately most employees have been with this company so long that they got comfortable and trusted that their jobs would always be their. I came to this company with a plan and I have all but completed every goal I set out to achieve because as history has taught me "all good things will come to an end" - Those like us are prepared for change because we've kept/improved our skill set, unfortunately those who haven't are the ones that are most worried. I sympathize with everyone who's life will/have been affected - take away this one thing: Invest in yourself not in a company.
Life is full of change. I have enough confidence in my abilities that I will come out of this just fine . This same scenario has happened to me 5 times in the last 10 years, and I am still here.
