I am former GTE Wireless. I started in early 1990. Per the daily call today if you had 13.5 years as of 6/30/2006 + 18 mos. (or 15 years as of then) you qualified for subsidy. Those numbers net 16+ for me. HOWEVER - when speaking to the benefits center they say that 1990 - July 2000 is before VZ and DO NOT COUNT. So I have SIX years of credited service. TEN YEARS were thrown out and I am access only. By that logic, you could only have 18 years of service credited by VZ today.

@opg not completely true. You did have to have 15 years (or be 65 with 5 years), but you did not have to have 76 point. I didn't and I qualify. This case is due to the GTE bridging, but there is info in the Retiree medical SPD about this. Seems there was also some kind of GTE contel retirement plan. You can find the document in verizonbenefitsconnection. You have to click the hyperlink for more documents under the medical section to see it. There are specific scenarios regarding eligibility outlined in there.

I have the same question. Started at GTE a little later than you 3/90. My understanding was that we would have access to a discounted medical plan as well. But the benefits center gave me the same response as you. I agree, the discount is minimal. But it would be helpful to have a clear answer.
If that were true no one could have gotten it.
I will say from what I remember if you have numbers on the small end of that chart you’d barely get any assistance and it probably is more costly then any other insurance.
