Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Disgraceful

The attacks here on Lance are an embarrassment. It’s a difficult time for us all and he’s doing what needs to be done for the long term health of the Company. I’m sure the decision was not taken lightly and we should at least acknowledge his candor and honesty.

It is now 11/11/2023 . After all the Psr cuts. Lance was fired. Hedge funds ordered Up to hire Jim Vena again. The JV team continues to wreck Up cutting more jobs. Employee loyalty is gone. We’re not building America anymore. Was interesting to read this original post from October 2018.

Maybe the guys at the very top of the Omaha glass palace can take a lead from the chief whatever made up position from bed bath and beyond and jump off the top floor of the glass palace. If they are inflating numbers or doing something shady it will catch up to the union pacific top brass .

Years ago I helped Lance when he was VP - Bulk, Coal. He set up a disaster and when it came to fruition I had to act fast to deliver to our customer. I always thought Lance would remember that. Well, the day came to sl------r managers and I was one of the first to go. I lost everything. Job, retirement, insurance, self-worth but I had to go on. I recently was brought back as a contractor to help on a project. I ran into Lance and he told me he’d get me back to UP. Ha! It was sent to a low level HR person telling me I could apply for any job at UP.

Thanks Lance. Glad I was able to help you survive all those years ago.

Lance fritz is about as good of a leader as Biden is. He used McKinsey to tear the company to the ground. He fired people based on wages not performance and hired new people at half the price all the while doubling their responsibility. Mckinsey advised he do that to incrcese profits and redistribute the wealth to the shareholders. Talk to a union pacific employee and they will tell you all about the lies. He's a con man at best. He a greedy horrible example of a human being. Like his goal 55 program. Broken promises and McKinsey is the tool he used to dismantle. Sure enjoyed the culture under Jim Young when Lance took over I retired and got out of the despicable culture that Lance seeded. Lance fritz is a greedy horrible example of a human being. Anyone who backs him is either ignorant or corrupt.

To Fritz, Vena, all the DTO's and Superintendents of all the Service Units across the entire system....
I really hope it's all worth it. I really do. You're supposed to lead us and protect us. You haven't done that. You've betrayed us in the most bestial way. The fruits of your "victory" will turn to ashes in your mouth.

I was going to say that this person probably got let go already. It was a whole 9 months ago. But its probably Lance himself. When its all said and done he will go down as being one of the worst Presidents UPRR has ever seen. There might not be anything left after Fritz. UP needed a leader Instead it got a follower who who stop at nothing to line his own pockets as well as investors who will just get what they can as well than sell sell sell. The Future for American Railroads wasnt promising. Now its all but over..its going to take a miracle to undue what Lance Fritz has done to UP..

Glad I got out 2 years ago. Retirement is a wonderful thing. Morale is at an all time low. Heard today that 400 people were let go yesterday. Another 75 by year end then another 20 percent next year. At that point there will be few to do the work and whoever is left will be completely overwhelmed and firefighting. Nice going Lance.

To the original writer, I appreciate your friendship with Lance or the fact that you "came up" with Lance. However, Lance communicates like an MBA student trying out pig Latin. He has consistently stated that this railroad is in trouble since he became CEO, yet our ability to post record earnings is unchanged. Tennison, who by all accounts was once of the worst CIOs in America, is now our Chief Strategy Executive. Isn't "strategy" in the job description of the CEO?? Employees addressed their concern about their lack of confidence in executives during the most recent employee engagement survey and the result was a few scape goats were sent off into the world and the rest of the executive team was thrown in a hat and then put in new positions based upon when they were pulled out. The exception to this was Lance, which is sickening and hilarious all at once because lots of people were pointing to him when expressing their doubts. When "PSR" was announced to employees by Lance, one of the questions posed was "who do we have that know how to do this?" Lance said "Good question." Guess what, the financial analysts asked the same thing and the same bull answer was given. That call went over like a brick thrown off of the UP headquarters that falls onto the sidewalk. SO, we have a CEO and a Chief Strategy guy who can't think of the most fundamental need to this huge change, yet the employees and the market hit directly on that need when its presented. Good job leaders. Also, people have been posing questions to our leaders such as, "will executives consider taking bonus cuts or freezes in order to prevent some employee costs?" Also, "why are the executives maintaining their executive dining room during this 'difficult' time"?"And the leadership has ignored these despite their promise for open communication. Yet this week, our colleagues will be shown the door and your friend Lance will still own his 19th floor office. Friend of Lance, get your head out of his arse and consider the real world we are living in.

Let's break this comment down to put this sentiment down to rest for good. It's a difficult time for us all. It is difficult for the average employee here at UP, because management continues to prioritize profits over all of it's other stakeholders. The only stakeholder that matters is the shareholder. As for management and those shareholders, the only difficulty they are facing is meeting is the ever growing greed to increase profits. Don't be fooled, management and shareholders are doing just fine. As for the long term, this is simply inaccurate. If you fail to invest in all your stakeholders and focus just on the financials, sure you might have some profitability in the short term, but it is not going to last. Your employees, customers, communities, etc. may put up with it for now, but that will not last. Side note, is that really the type of company you want to work for? As for was this decision taken lightly, sure, he does not want to have to do it, but he is prioritizing profits and inherently his bonus over you and the value you provide to UP. And as for candor and honesty, why is there so much little transparency? Did you know we were shifting to PSR and reductions would be coming? When will the layoffs be coming?

How will they be conducted? What is the strategy? I can answer the last one: Profits.

For those who stay at UP, you can't hold this against Lance or his team during the next round of employee engagement surveys.

Just kidding. These fools have no clue what they're doing and are laughing their way to the bank simultaneously.

In some ways I hope I get let go. As they used to say in Soviet Russia, eventually the living will envy the dead.

What do you expect? The man wants to keep his job and get paid. It wasn't his decision to take UP public. He works for the shareholders period. UP isn't welfare, it isn't required to employ anyone.

Lance is sinking this UP ship down to hell. Road failure after road failure, late trains and more late trains. Yet G55 is all they see. Come on! Wake up people. Jim Young ran this railroad for the working people and their families and the work got done. Today, the work is not getting done because the people see the devil in red, waiting to cut us off. You will see this railroad either merge or get taken over by a hedge fund and cut up for the wolves to feed.

Lance is a liar! Has been and always will be! A used car sales person in a pink shirt! He cares nothing for you, your job or anything else! He is saving his a-- and his fortune! If you believe anything he says, you clearly aren’t looking at the actions as a whole. He does not care who or how he cuts to the bone! He will get paid no matter what. The best thing that could happen to him would be similar to the guy at Csx! Lance is a liar!

You're an embarrassment! Please do not confuse Lance's golden heart with his golden parachute! I'm sure why it's "a difficult time for all of us" when the company countiues to make record profits each quarter. The difficult times are for the ones that have years of loyal dedication to their careers with UP, sacrificing much of thier private lives along the way. How many of these folks missed thier kids sports events, been on the road for holidays, worked ungodly hours all for the sake of the company. There are few companies out there with a work force as fiercely loyal as the men and women that work for UP. So......to defend the man leading this assault on backs of those who made these this company what it is EMBARRASSING!!! YOU'RE EMBARRASSING!!

I am free to express my opinion. Including disgust.

I am not threatening anyone, I am just angry.

He's the one who suppress any dissent, different opinion, free voice, free thinking, he rules with an iron fist in a complete dictatorship... His behavior is legal though, so be it, however I'd like to keep my right to voice my opinion as well - so, he can do his thing and I'll do my thing.

Karma will take care of the rest...

The man makes Millions a year! He also is on multiple different boards, when he should be devoting 100% of his time to UP and figure out how to hit this Operating Ratio without destroying the lives of its faithful employees. You are fooled, as Fritz is nothing short then a politician! Jim Young deserved our respect!!

This post is a joke right? Long term health of the company by setting it up to be re regulated. Great idea. This is one hundred percent about the stock price. All of the executives are looking out for themselves and wall Street. If they were looking out for the employees, customers, or long term health of the company we would he looking at how to develop a better product. Instead we're consumed with an operating ratio because wall Street says so. Read JP Morgans analyst writing about how they don't understand why UP went down this path but they welcome it as it no doubt will mean higher stock price. Whoever started this thread defending Lance should volunteer their position to the greater good of the company and quit. God help whatever department your work in I'm sure it's being ran into the ground under your watch. Open your eyes-- people who love this company are disgusted with it.

Lance and the board are too chickenshit to do the right thing. When you are number one in an industry , you don’t follow the trends of companies that are inferior and not producing record profits. UP should be the trendsetter, not the follower. Lance is doing what’s best for the shareholders which will cause the company to lose ground in the long run. I don’t think BN or any other railroads will mind picking up the “non-premium” customers UP will tell to hit the bricks.

There are 2 consistencies to this year and last: Lance Fritz and Beth Whited. Neither of them could or would ever tell the truth. Both are in this for themselves and their fortunes. and nothing more. If ANYONE thinks they ever give a thought to actually considering input from others, them you gave indeed bought into their snake oil company.

Long term health? This is about quarterly profits and shareholder value.

Not maintaining equipment or track is not good for longterm health.
