IBM is failing on a number of fronts. From my viewpoint they're getting boxed-in on Cloud, Watson-AI, Security, Services, Block-chain and more. It's well documented that IBM was late to the table with a number of their "newer" offerings/directions; however there's a human element to this downfall. A Customer or Prospect buys Products and Services based on the perceived strengths and capabilities of an organization. It's public knowledge that talented IBM personnel are being laid-off for cheaper inexperienced talent elsewhere. That's not just Services talent, it's also Support talent too; the very individuals responsible for addressing product bug fixes, upgrades, etc. If you're a CIO why would you gamble your company's monies (and possibly your job) making an IBM decision? That my friends is the groundswell IBM created under Ginni's watch.
This post was originally a reply on another thread @VGBSgpn-yoh ,but the poster accurately pointed out the fundamental factors of how IBM got into the position that customers don’t believe in it anymore.
