It was a smart move to lay off ALL the digital architects 6 years ago after Intel conquered AMD once and for all. Intel would NEVER need new architecture tuning to be done on their chips - their eternal leadership in Fab technology would keep Intel ahead ... forever ... right? right? Right? RIGHT ??

ASM - I find these posts hilarious! My company ASM which Intel contracts to has never been hit with layoffs. We continue to rip off Intel at every corner. Most of the staff is billed out for 40 hours of work for machine repairs yet I work about 2 to 4 actual hours a week and that consists of me surfing the net. When a machine breaks, they call me who in turn agrees that the machine is broke and we call another company who can actually fix the machine. In fact I am working right now. Talk about a bunch of dummies running the show at Intel. They have no clue. Keep paying me and my fellas 80 to 100k a year to do nothing .

TSMC and Samsung have ramped 7nm and Intel keeps on milking 14. When 10nm ramps as some fat person said it will bust margins and kill the stock, response layoffs and write downs to balance the 10nm FUBAR

@1pba: Good point. More likely MR would be told its governmental pressure to assuage his ego.The truth more likely is his delivery history over the past 3 years esp in Modems which has been pathetic MR had plenty of abuse investigations at QC, he has shown poor leadership at Intel by cribbing about low attendance to his all hands events, those were the signs of employees rejecting his leadeership.

He can tout his massive Bangalore operation expansion as a success story, the truth would unravel in 8 months...

Hopefully the board has enuff sense to bring back Kirk or Pat back.

Except for his buddies brought in at levels far higger than their capabilities & some Indians who have a misplaced loyalty towards his origins, the rest of Intel treats him like the b---s---ter bereft of honesty and the lack of capabilty for introspection

My take on the current situation. Because of governmental preasures. MR will not be offered the CEO. BK has to make a deal avoid hanging out with Bernie in Marion, iII. Next they will ber forced to produced a plan and it will go to the Feds.. There will be penalities. MR's cronies start sacrificing all the his indians and H1bs. Tell them it's for the better good. India IT lobby will start going soft.

After 25K US employees, mostly over 40, are chopped 100K engineers, all under 25, in India will be hired. You don't need quality engineers to milk 14nm+++++ or to move backwards in process tech. Winning the INTC way.

Feel kind of sorry for the Intel employees, as many of us in IT don't really have any interest in hiring them after their epic cluster of Spectre/Meltdown. Nothing like cheating by cutting corners in processor tech making them run faster. Intel pulled the equivalent of selling faster cars because they stripped out the airbags and brakes.

Meanwhile, the rest of us in IT are stuck in patching hell, occasionally bricking servers, frames and PCs. Nothing like getting ESX purple screen of death on high end virtualization infrastructure as the patch released to address Intel's fraud causes kernel panic and blows things up.

I'm not sure I'd want Intel on my resume right now. While those folks may not have directly participated in the decisions, they definitely profited from it with bonuses and marketshare improperly taken from more ethical competitors like AMD.

Sounds good. The factories are all investing a great deal in green badge contractor. 25K more should not be a problem.
