Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

No layoffs in 2018

Heard from a reliable source in HR that no layoffs are occurring in 2018. Company will be reorganizing into 2019 as it prepares for UP2020. As areas are evaluated, they will either change roles or be offered an out. UP is trying to do it right this time, please stop spreading fake news.

The ignorant one was that Beth Whited! The chief HR person, or whatever her f---ing title is! Her and Lance both went on air and lied to the employees, especially Lance! Honestly who didnt see this coming though! Fritz has been laying off people since he became CEO! Executive positions have changed constantly, and the rapid exit of certain individuals was more than a red flag! I still remember that townhall that sh--head Fritz saying " were not going to implement precision railroading that Hunter Harrison implemented"! Shocker he lied about that too! Oh wait we'll just change the name, f--- over the employees, and do exactly what we want! Sound about right Lance?

This made me laugh. Lots of us out last Tuesday. Who in HR pretended to be so ignorant?

Hmmm....I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that your "reliable source " is very wrong! The cuts made national news, but the title says "no cuts in 2018"! Was your HR source by chance a manager? Those pukes like to lie anyways! I dont know about you, about I'd thinking about getting a different "source" for your information! Just a thought!

If UP follows the same plan it did last time, it doesn’t have to give advanced notice per the WARN Act. The penalty for not following the WARN act is 60 days of pay, which they built into the severance packages last year. Doing this means they can offer a 60+ day severance package to all employees that are let go and provide no advanced notification.

Not true. Big meeting Thursday and walkouts will take place Friday. HR doesnt have a clue. After CSX’s earnings release they have to do something immediately or all the execs will be toast.

The number is 435 for initial round, which is under the WARN threshold.

I believe warn is by location and not for the whole company. Ex: when a plant closes

Now or 2019, cuts are in the forecast. Hey EVP’s this is easy. Offer a package at least as good as the 2017 package, THEN, let everyone who applies tap out. 2 things happen: you are left with those whoe largely want to stay and you reduce headcount. Both situations are key objectives. Pull your heads out and be a leader. Its not hard to figure out, unless you are so disconnected, you cannot see this.

Same, I heard from an AVP there are no planned cuts for 2018. The internet is just trying to freak out all the employees.

Nothing is backing this up. WARN would be required for 500 people. It was avoided in 2017 because voluntary layoffs are excluded. With a 60 day notice, that would require layoffs in mid-December, not happening. The locomotive shop which had the WARN notice, is for January 2019, and those are being offered relocation.

This original post IS the fake news. 10% OE reductions are in the works and will be completed by the end of this month. People are losing their jobs THIS YEAR, THIS MONTH. Another 20% expense reduction is being worked on for next year and even more people will lose their jobs. Labor is the biggest component of most department budgets so there is no other way to hit those marks without laying people off.

You are either very gullible or foolish, but no one should believe your post. Everyone is at risk right now.

That is factually not true. The Law department was told by leadership that there will be cuts.
