Thread regarding IBM layoffs

A typical workload for IBMers

I found myself getting worked up on Sunday afternoons about the stress I'd be getting on Monday morning (regularly working 60-65 hrs including many weekends - but no overtime). Then, gradually, the panic started to move backwards to Sunday lunch, then Sunday morning, and eventually Saturday. That's when I realized there was a real problem: not good for mental health!

I was good at my job but the workload became impossible. We were cutting headcount like crazy - and guess who has to pick up the slack - yes, those of us who remained (I echo your call out to the great IBMers still there). If you weren't online for the better part of 24/7, you weren't a team player, or so it seems. That may be a common situation in larger organizations but IBM remains exemplar in my opinion.

So, my RA this year was a blessing in disguise.

Good post @VwFDc9z-9ndd . I quit working at IBM at the beginning of last year, and I gotta say that I was also a subject to this imposed pressure. Sad to see that things didn’t change

Good for you! RA is tough but working 60 hours with no overtime benefits nobody but IBM. They LOVE staff that work for free. Glad you are out and there are better jobs out there!5

Anon that the point!

Workload/hours may be very high in some other companies but they actually pay well for your efforts.

Or you can find companies that have better more reasonable hours.

IBM gives neither reasonable working hours, or is willing to pay for what they put you through.

IBM workload is nothing compared to Big 3/ Big 4 and even Accenture, Wipro, Infosys. They just pay you better and keep the raises coming. Meaning your problems are not unique.

IBM is really good at creeping in on your personal time and making you work harder. They continue to tell you how they've done studies and you are not working as hard as the outside industry. Truth is, once you get out you really find out how much that you've been mislead.

I've been feeling great since I just RAed IBM.

Had enough of the BS and gave notice, was like a huge weight just vanished

It is a rotten company, there are much better places out there that do not try to s--- the life out of you. And actually pay for your work instead of trying to find ways to screw "resources" over.

Or give you some useless brownpoints for your efforts instead.
