Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

A message to those who criticize the actual railroaders

Easy to bad mouth the ACTUAL RAILROADERS from the cheap seats. Talk about Your long lunches etc etc. Well while I'm on the engine 12 hrs with no access to not food I'll shed a tear for ya. How about when I'm working 40 plus weekends a year while you chill at home. Or every single holiday that you automatically get off. Me and my brothers and sisters will keep moving freight. Abuse family leave funny hearing that from folks who work an 8hr day in climate controlled comfort. Sure why not b!ame the most productive workers in all of the transportation industry. Do have any idea who makes these (oftentimes ridiculous) t-plans work? I'll give you one guess. I've been in te&y 21 years with nothing but record profits that stuff doesn't happen by accident the boots on the ground do that. Overpaid?how about you try having valid work/pay rejected on a fairly regular basis then go through a two year process to get money rightfully earned. And to top it off now many of y'all chair sitters have lost brothers and sisters due to dangerous work conditions? From where I sit( you know,on an actual train) most of the screw ups come.from the top down.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Posted on a different thread by @VFjEKbw-1ncw

You do realize PSR is going to bring fewer, but longer trains which means CMS will starting furloughing the minute guarantee starts getting even close to budget, and won’t be bringing you back this time... Just remember that when you or your brother and sisters will sitting on the unemployment line just like the rest of us.

I’ve been on both sides, in the field and in the HDC. The grass is not greener from whichever side you stand. There are upsides and downsides to most any job here. Bickering back and forth and criticizing the “other side” does not produce anything useful. The fact of the matter is that the company, as a whole, has shifted in a dangerous direction. There has been a large pool of talent pushed out the door, and it is getting much harder to call this place a great employer. One of the best perks was career-long stability, and we’re all watching that erode more and more each year. I am horrified to see where this place will be in 5 years.

Pretty sure PTC will automate trains in the future anyway, so we’ll all be gone because of automation, it’s just a matter of time.

Yes, but we have the FMLA and other abusers of the system in the field, boots on the the ground. The sad part is we as humans will always be out for oneself. From the CEO to the lowest man/woman out there. They make policies to stop the abuse because no wants to WORK like are forefathers, and the unions say it’s ok and not fight them on it. It all comes down to who can make the most money at the end of the day for really doing nothing.

Staying in a position is a choice. If your job is that unbearable, get another. As Jim young would say we are all in this together. But since you are talking about how easy it is for managers, there are plenty of train and engine men sleeping during their shifts, playing games on the engine, napping in sidings and getting a damn good trip rate as well! Please let’s not try to balance the scales with insults. It’s bad for everyone and if you don’t like being in the elements, go get another job! Don’t insult those that chose not to subject themselves to Mother Nature! Everyone in management is not abusing the system or getting every holiday and weekend off! I take plenty of work home every day and do research all times of night and day!
