Face it folks, the C suite in Verizon is known for one thing... Boosting there dollars and laying off Employees. If this 44k outsource is a surprise to you, then you've been blinded by the board. When Vodafone sold the 49% stake back, Wireless, the only cash cow of the company was purged. Its all they know how to do, buy failed companies, try to integrate, fail at that then CUT CUT CUT.. The last time I used their wireless service was 10 years ago, canceled it just before I left VZW, writing has bee on the wall for years.. They never cared about the employees, Danny, Lowell and the rest talked a good game, took the VZW profits, wasted them on everything from AOL (EPIC FAIL) to Rebranding, ya that Check mark was worth 8 Billion dollars..
I wish you all good luck, take the voluntary package if you can, rework the resume and find something better.. Telcom is just a commodity now, yiu'd be better off somewhere else....
