Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Infosys and Verizon think - Why can't it be a win-win for Rebadged employees and Infosys

For those that are getting benefited with taking severance compared to Infosys offer, why can't they compensate the same for moving to Infosys with increased signon bonus. Those people that are leaving need a job and Infosys needs the knowledge to have continuous smooth transition to Infosys from Verizon. Anyway Verizon has to pay VSP to these employees and Infosys anyway needs to hire someone for that position for replacement. It will be a win-win to both employees and Infosys/ Verizon with getting the package for employees and knowledge to Infosys. Also, there will not be any strings attached in this scenario and employee can leave at any time and Infosys can terminate anytime may be with the clause of employee has to stay for 6 months and job guarantee for 6 months. Also, Infosys dont have to match compensation in this scenario as it will be a new hire situation. Just think and make the changes before having too many employees not move to Infosys.

@1kco No one is going to get VSP and a job at InfoSys. In fact if you decline the offer, you cannot be hired by them for 6 months. I don't understand your 6 years vs 10-12 years of service comment. If you take the VSP you will be retained as a Vz employee until your knowledge transfer is complete. They expect most to be 3-6 months. So why terminate and be hired by InfoSys for that transition period? Secondly, if you go to InfoSys you are being guaranteed comparative PAY for 2 years. You are NOT guaranteed EMPLOYMENT for 2 years. There is a big difference.

This is a good idea... It would benefit all the parties involved. Where it makes sense, especially for people with more than 6 years of service the VSP works best. so they can take the VSP under the condition they will be hired by Infosys for 3 or 6 months to do the transition. At the end of 6 months both Infosys and the transitioned employee could depending on the mutual fit decide to continue or separate. This would be a win win for all the parties involved... Those with six years or less in service may take the joining bonus with Infosys and move there with a 2 years job gurantee with a higher pay (due to bridge pay etc) and those with say 10 or 12 years of service would take the VSP and help with transition for the next 3 to 6 months. At the end of the transition, Infosys can extend them a market determined salary and if it is mutually acceptable VSP transition employees become Infosys employees... Great outcome for all.

@1grp. Forget about normal employees. Many of VPs and EDs are not able write and speak proper English. Presentation skills are horrible.

@1grp. Probably because many of these posts are from our friends in VDSI where English as a primary language constitutes only 0.02% of the total population.

If the examples of writing contained within this thread in any way mirrors the abilities of IT practitioners at large, they’re doomed.

What is so damn difficult or time consuming about putting forth an idea in a grammatically correct form that’s free of misspellings?

This is work typical of juveniles.

The director kind of intimated that the ESP employees will stay until they train the new Infosys replacement. All that is promised is a one month notice. I wouldnt count on 6 months but it is not going to be rare

rebadged employees that take the VSP and staying 6 months is going to be extremely rare. If you are counting on this, you're going to be disappointed.

Someone posted earlier:

"The rebadged employees who take the VSP are staying employed by Vz for approximately 6 months in order to transition the work."

Is this true? If so, they are getting a better deal than the non-rebadged employees who in most cases will probably get an end date of 12/28/2018. There's a huge advantage to being able to work into 2019 and taking the package. Besides the additional salary and benefits prior to separation:

a) additional service accrual towards severance calculation,

b) additional accrual of vacation days for eventual payout (plus 6 personal days to use),

c) additional 6% 401k matching on income (including 2018 STI),

d) ability to max 401k contributions to offset the lump-sum payout,

e) severance medical coverage will extend farther into the future,

There are probably others. But again, if this is true this is disparate treatment towards the non-rebadged who are in the dark regarding their end date until 12/10.

Well OP tried to see is if some people can move to Infosys with both offers. It is not that these employees do not have skills or cannot find another job or fascinate about Infosys. They would not have survived if they did not have skills. These employees not only had skills, but had patience with supporting multiple projects at a time by having a solo onshore support with pulling from different directions. What the upper level did not know is that how much patience, skills they had to get the job done for years. These employees get better job environment and better life, it is not the end of the world. I doubt if anyone go to Infosys even if both options are available.

My opinion: if you are in a city with a significant Infosys presence/contracts take the infosys offer. If you are in an outlier area, take the VSP especially if you are an L6

Infosys need US employees badly with expertise to make their model work now as managed IT. They are trying to remove their poor image. Whether or not it really happens remains to be seen but their reliance on 1HB employees is not what it used to be. Smart employees will use them for their own gain

It comes down to do you want a job immediately or are you willing to take a bit more risk for more cash. There are plus and minus to both. The one thing that’s for certain is you cannot sit around. You have to invest in yourself regardless of being an Infosys employee or free agent. The choice given is not bad, it is better than inevitable job loss at Verizon and skill erosion as it is impossible or nearly impossible to make lateral moves for oneself

@bku This is truth. I don't trust them either. Make note that although they are offering comparative compensation for two years, they are NOT guaranteeing employment that long, even though they say they have no intention of laying anyone off. yea right. The highly comp'd will be the first to go once they get the knowledge they need to meet SLAs on this account. I've done the math and if I went to Infosys and managed to stay 1 year, I'd be in the hole vs taking the VSP. After two years, I'd be in the hole taking the VSP vs going to InfoSys. Doubting we'd last two years, I'm taking the money and running.

To OP, there is no way you'd get both the package and a job, so it's time to choose.

Infosys is giving 30k signings bonus plus a job that can be used outside of Verizon I’d you have any decent skills. Taking vsp and Infosys is absurd, nobody is going to give that much. Frankly this is a big bailout for many folks to get off the Verizon teat. The people who were royally screwed were those sold off to frontier a few years ago. I have zero pity for those expecting both

OP you are employed at will. Years ago VZ started closing buildings or transferred leases and employees in non-right-to-work states to get to the here and now. Thre is no guarantee of a forever job with InfoSys. VZ toted political crony bloat for the last 15 years. That ends with Infosys. Make a decision. You control your destiny. Lower your expenses or build your skills with training to get a job in the income range you desire. Gravy Train is over. Best wishes!

As one of the Rebadged employees, it would be an easier decision, if I trusted Infosys.

That being said, I am 90% positive I will take the offer.

The VSP, is not much more, as I have not been a VZ employee for a long time (mid level)

I don't understand this post. The rebadged employees who take the VSP are staying employed by Vz for approximately 6 months in order to transition the work. They took the package mostly because they don't want to work for InfoSys. InfoSys has already stated they will be hiring more US employees anyway, so it won't be just for the Verizon account. This is a done deal. Nothing else will change as the agreements have been signed. Time to move on and make your choice. The clock is ticking. And yes, I am one of the rebadged employees. At least we have a choice now.

VDSI employees rebadging to Infosys are being offered around 1300 US$ as joining bonus.

please note there is nothing like severance as an alternative being offered to employees in US.

Infosys Sign on bonus is only benefiting who is with Veirzon for less than 6 years. VSP has a greater benefit over what signon bonus was offered at Infosys. There are so many people in rebadging that are over 10+ years with Verizon that may not take the offer with Infosys.
