Thread regarding Sears layoffs

My God..try to collect unemployment...you won't. ..you are needed

If you want to hang out on unemployment good luck....So many are looking for quality and dedicated associates like Sears unintentionally made...you won't be long until you've been contacted....really first hand experience. ... you have been gifted ... no retailers go without ups and downs... but standing strong in the fire takes experience.....You've earned it...love,peace and respect. ...together we all stand. ..Jim...tears 4 sears.....

With all of the seasonal hiring, now is the time to jump. Grab a seasonal position at Target or some other store and get through the holidays with guaranteed income while you can more leisurely seek a permanent position. It is actually better to apply while you are still working because employers will not see you as unemployed and desperate. Grocery stores are a good spot for many ex-Kmart people, hardware stores are often good for ex-Sears employees. Be wary of traditional department stores. All are hurting. Think T J Maxx or Marshalls or Ross instead. They are growing like crazy.

I know lots of people are much happier at a place that is stable or growing instead of deteriorating year after year. It is a much less toxic workplace just about anywhere else. Downsize them before they downsize you.

Why in the world did you ride this one out? You had years (at least a decade) to reskill and look for another job. Those who stuck around are just the worst type - dumb or plain lazy.

One period after each sentence is enough by the way.

This all depend on your area, and what is available. While the statement is technically true, it is also blindingly naive.

You should all be preparing your resumes and hitting up contacts. MOST jobs are gotten through networking. You should be hitting up any local retailer: Costco, Apple, Kohls, Target, etc.

There is no such thing as a job that drops in your lap, and the sad reality is, you have a better chance getting a job while you are employed than while on unemployment.

If folks makes a measured exit from Sears, you will actually be helping all of your fellow associates. It is easier to intake former Sears employees when it's a measured "trickle" of exodus and not massive waves of firings.

You don't owe Sears anything You should certainly not fall for the lie that there is a job waiting for you no matter what you do. Jobs happen for those who work to make it happen, no matter what the circumstance that lead them to look. Anything else is a lie to keep you complacent to make upper management's life easier. THEY will get the golden parachutes, and laugh at your struggles once they kick you to the curb when your usefulness to them is at an end.

OP is right. I was out of a job maybe a month. Good companies are out there if you look for them.
