Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Avoiding lawsuits

Anyone who signs up to leave will be accepted. The company will move 'off the book' dates out to next year and at the same time begin to move departments and functions to outsourcing groups as well as combining functions and tasks.

The company wants people off the books but also, the company has to be cautious as if they refuse someones request to leave and then next May or June RIFs them, they face lawsuits.

Hans, I would imagine, wants to avoid lawsuits. He is here to get a job done with as little turmoil as possible. He was selected because he has no emotional ties or allegiance to the old RBOC companies or any existing management group.

I'm not the original poster, but I agree that all of this is going to play out this way, without opening a lot of space for lawsuits. Not to worry, whoever signs up to leave, it will be accepted. Posted by @VHgbUn6-2aem

My boss told me that a certain vp that they knew well said, if you apply for the retirement package you will be almost guaranteed to get it.

Rumor is you can take this package next year if you get riffed, even if you didn't volunteer.

The above statement is INCORRECT you MUST volunteer by 11/10 to be able to get the package if you are not selected and then get rifted before the June 28 deadline

That's my point. Rumor is you can take this package next year if you get riffed, even if you didn't volunteer. Thats not right when I might volunteer simply because the faq says no other way to get the package unless you volunteer. Wouldn't that be a class suit if they are telling us that and then another opportunity comes to be before June 2019?

It clearly says in the faq that you're NOT getting the enhanced package, only the standard one.

Focus on this

Correct. You'll get the same package if later RIF'd. It's just frustrating to prepare for the future when you have no date work with. And all management keeps uttering to us is: focus in finishing strong and don't listen to watercooler talk!

Verizon is more concerned about DACA than the American citizens that work for the company. They screwed its management employees out of their pensions and retire medical benefits and are now trying to force out older workers.

@kuz you can seek and redeploy to a new position as long as you don't volunteer. But kinda defeats the purpose because all jobs are targeted. If you don't volunteer you could also stay in your current job. Either way you'd still be subject to RIFs down the road.

Its almost as of they are preventing you from moving on to a new job. If I find a job I should be able to go and move on not have to worry about what date if any date that I can leave???? How do you interview and prepare if you don't even know when or if you are leaving and lets face it, we were given the option to leave because our jobs are not essential and eventually we will be let go. This has to be the most frustrating BS that I have even been through.

My understanding is that if you raise your hand to leave prior to the 2018 deadline and are not accepted, but later rifted prior to the June 2019 deadline, you will get the same voluntary package.
