Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Everybody in closing stores should read this

Some of your regular customers will come in at the beginning, but they will often be too depressed by the sight of your store in liquidation to come back later. You will also get a number of people who have not stepped foot in the store in years, if ever, and often are fairly nasty and demanding. They will want everything for nothing. Your thieves will come out of the woodwork because they think since you're closing, it wont matter. You will get people who think they have the right to just walk into your stockrooms and back rooms to "shop" and look around, and then get mad at you when you tell them they are not allowed back there. I've worked with two different liquidators. Both were former Kmart managers from stores that closed. The first one was a nightmare, the second was a blessing. You just never know who you'll get. Good luck! I wish you the best in your job future.

All of the things that have happened in past rounds of liquidation are moot here. If the company goes into Chapter 7, which it will, the entire chains go down. There will not be as much order as in the past as before they wanted to maintain a good appearance. If a judge is supervising liquidation, it will happen on a much faster scale. Just better to grab what you can and head for the door. BUT, do stay on the clock as they might not have noticed. You can always tell them you were on your break if you come back.

I also experienced everything said by OP. The key to a successful and tolerable liquidation is the liquidator. We were fortunate to have a gentleman named George handle ours. He is a former Sears SGM. He was respectful and treated us well. He even had a BBQ for us. I loved his closing statement before we opened on our last day. He said "nothing personal but I hope I never see any of you ever again."

Who were your liquidators? I had a Sergio and he was amazingly awesome.

Plus everything said by OP is 100% legit. Just experienced all of that over the summer.
