This interview with the CEO was an interesting read, so I recommend it. Think that it’s a good move that Cisco is trying to position itself as the leader in the market of cybersecurity. It has always been a big and a potent market, and now that it’s changing as new technologies are being deployed,I think it’s a good moment to invest in it.

Cisco competes based on its dominant market position. While that market advantage is real, it is not guaranteed forever. Just ask General Electric how well that worked out for them.
So maybe hiring, retaining and promoting people based on what they can do rather than who they know and where they came from would be a wise move for Cisco shareholders.
But things seem likely to just stay as they are until a GE-like collapse happens.
