Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Basically, everyone who doesn't move freight is a layoff target

I’ve been hearing that the bulk of the 30% will be from the HQ building. Basically if you don’t move freight you’re a possible target. You know how in the old days you could call a company and someone would answer right away? And now if you call just about anyone you have a long wait, or no operators at all — just email? This is happening because it’s cheaper to get rid of people and the public has become desensitized to it. Same here at the railroad. If you need someone to help you it’s going to take longer. If people need programs or reports to provide analysis in the field or HQ, it will take longer or won’t be done at all. Customers will have to wait longer for some lower value shipments to be delivered.

People are getting accustomed to waiting and are accepting it as the new way to do business and UP is doing the same thing here. And if customers don’t like it, from management’s point of view they can always ship by truck

Make no assumptions that because you move freight you are safe. Automation and streamlined scheduling will drastically impact the need for crews. You may not be fired this week or next, but furloughs are coming. Just be prepared, have a fall back, prep your savings, what ever you need to do to cover your butt.

Well right now it's just stories and rumors about who stays and who goes! I will simply state I hate seeing anyone lose their job! The only person I would like to see go is up on the 19th floor of the glass palace in Omaha! Losing a job is very tough on the individual, and those around them! Huge sacrifices are made when a termination occurs! Everyone person hired by the UP, just remember this! You were hired for a reason! If you were let go, then you need to understand that it's not your fault! That pasty skinny prick on the 19th floor has his days numbered as well! He simply does not care about you at all! He cares about his profits and his shareholders! That's how he makes his money! He's completely oblivious to the fact the people on the ground are the ones who make that possible! Mr. Fritz is a very charismatic person! He knows how to talk, or in the rail industry he knows how to BS people! His objectives are and always will be self-serving! He's not as compassionate as wants people to believe! Every big cut that has taken place, was on his watch! Fritz is a number person, pure and simple! Mr. Young believed this company was about the people in it! Customer service was good, and business was good! It wasn't the greatest, but it was working! Fritz refuses to see that! The number of people lost is astounding! Some people have come back, but many others have moved on! Working for the UP is nothing like it used to be! Its said that most people will not make it to retirement within the company! The amount of "restructuring" taking place, I wouldn't be surprised if even bigger changes take place! I believe the employment cuts are just the prelude to something far worse!

Hey Mr. Fritz, I hope your reading this! I hope you realize how badly you've affected people! I didn't expect you to care though! Everyone in the company knows you don't! The sickening part comes from your stints on camera! Your constant on-camera BS isn't fooling anybody, except maybe your investors! There's an old saying that if you light a candle from both ends, then eventually you'll get burned! You're not doing this company any favors by cutting people! You are however making company look even worse by doing so! Just something to think about!
