Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Welcome to the real world

Please keep in mind that working for a company is not like being part of a club. You can get outright fired for creating disruption. Your managers are not allowed to convey ANY non-approved narrative. This is not drinking "flavor-aid" this is trying to not get fired for cause.

I honestly don't now what people are looking for here. This is the real world. There's no climactic uprising of the workers against management "story arc". The reality is, everyone not in a C-title are going to keep their head's down and make the best of the situation until they can jump or until they are pushed. A very, very few will be lucky enough to turn into the spin and land in some post-Sears iteration of their current job

This isn't rocket science - Sears is in bankruptcy. Go find another job and stop looking for a Zack Snyder epic climactic conflict. It's not going to happen. You're not living in a story. There is no plot or narrative. The "bad guys" are not going to get their comeuppance, the "good guys" are not going to have their savior moment. People are going to do their jobs, stay under the radar so they're not fired early, thus giving them time to jump and otherwise try to not end up in disastrous financial straits.

Well said @VObuEFz-pdv . I couldn’t agree more

Define or re-define your own inner definition of loyalty.. loyalty is earned not bought, no matter how high the check. People that are not straight with me don't deserve my loyalty.

False Evidence Appearing Real...

Corp will not let people know. Corp will never give specifics. Human nature...Corp give specifics, associates/ key holders jump..Time and time again, people have families, morgatges, obligations..Corp has stock to sell and needs bodies to unpack it, sell it, sign it, and secure it...Seriously!! Define or re-define your own inner definition of loyalty..

Management does not tolerate any discussion on layoffs. We're supposed to be mindless, happy workers until we are told to go away.

So yeah, Sears folks are going to have a hard time getting straight answers. This line of inquiry is going to be locked down, hard; and it's going to be every-man-for-himself. There is not going to be any "honesty" from anyone.

THIS IS THE PROBLEM at the heart of the matter, It's a matter of treating employees as adults and with respect. If the company will not treat employees with the respect they deserve then they should not expect that in return. It's that simple. Don't lie to me when the building is on fire and tell me it's business as usual. Even if we both know the truth, then speak it up front.

I've not worked for Sears (I have friends who do/did and I worry for them), but I worked at a company that got sold, so there are parallels. After the sale of my company, there were several waves of layoffs. During one, I heard that the location my co-worker was at was getting hit hard, while my area wasn't. I reached out to my co-worker knowing she was going to be fine. She went to her boss in hysterics. I was written up for causing a panic and "spreading lies." I was in the next wave of layoffs even though I had brought in an entire new revenue stream and had been lauded for my efforts in client services.

A company's "dirty laundry" never gets aired unless someone writes a tell-all.

Regular people can assume they are cost and they are expendable and that your managers are finding reasons to get rid of you, as their bosses are looking for reasons for getting rid of them. It's pretty much "Survivor" for Sears and K'mart right now.

My advice? Keep getting your resume out there, and try and get out before you are chosen to "leave the island."

Interesting points and some are true. Speaking on the store level though, some of the managers have gone past the required party line. Approximately a year and a half ago, it became very clear that Sears was truly really in trouble and corporate began trickling down policies that made no sense but I guess were designed to save money. The manager at my store embraced these policies to the nth degree and added his own punitive ones such as punishing people who went 1 minute over their half and break with a write up. All sorts of demoralizing behaviors. There was and is no need for this.

You can mouth the Corp line to save yourself but you can act decently at the same time.

LOL , so drinking the kool aid for the sheckles, ok , No one was implying story arc or uprising, they just want some honesty from the company, What's the schedule? What's happening? When is the company going to file chapter 7? When are we going to cease operations? Who is my store's liquidator so I can apply for a job with them as to not appear unemployed while applying for another job. Can we get reference letters from Sears so we can move on gracefully? MAYBE people are looking for some answers and some semblance of basic decency. We all know the company is winding down operations and we are looking for some honesty from HE.
