Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Severance and unemployment?

Somebody in one of the posts yesterday mentioned they were taking severance and unemployment and I'm not sure what that's referring to.

Is it really possible to get unemployment benefits if you were laid off with severance or is there something else that post is referring to that I don't know of?

@VOLgyfw-1ujc, insurance is lost on your last day of work. Do all your Dr appts NOW and refill all your meds. Cobra is super expensive 3x-5x more than what you pay now. Life insurance is just a bit more. Check out different insurance marketplace now if you don't choose Cobra.

At times you may find low cost depending on your income.

Good Luck, too bad that Sam's Club is now a No CARE company.

Karma comes back tougher than what was done to us who cared!

@VOLgyfw-1ujc, so sorry to hear of your cancer diagnosis! Prayers for you to fully recover :-)

I wouldn't rely on advice I get here about how the insurance works, and COBRA. It's really important for you to get the right answers since you are going through treatment. Want to make sure you are taken care of. Give a call to the Benefits Department at the Home Office. They will be able to help you by answering questions about insurance and COBRA. They're the experts and are there to help with any questions you may have.

I was wondering about the insurance. Can anyone please answer this? I was diagnosed with cancer in may. I've had treatments and I am now waiting to have surgery when I'm strong enough. I will have it done in Nov I'm sure but I recostquire treatments after the surgery as well. Does our coverage end on Dec 7th or until the end of the month? And cobra insurance. I can't seem to find our how much that will cost. Someone please give me an answer if you know. If not after surgery I will not be able to do the rest of my treatments and it will be what it will be. Someone please give me some info on this? After 25 1/2 years I'm tired and worn out. I am 4 years away from early retirement also. I'm so reday to go and I never thought I would say that because I love what I'm doing.

State vary. Here it was easier to wait until the reverence pay arrived, the file for unemployment. Also depends on your personal situation.

In my severance package we were told we would qualify for unemployment, and that was correct. I got both. All this information is is your paper work that will be given to you once you accept severance.

Remember this might be your one and only time this will be offered to you. You might accept another position and then realize this is not for you, and then realize you made a mistake. Consider what your best options are for you. No more Monday thru Friday schedule will be the biggest change. Good luck to all involved. Oh, and by the way, they also screwed you again by doing this right before the end of the year so that you lose out on sam's share.

In Ohio, you can file for unemployment right after your last day but cannot receive it until your severance payout has ended. For example- if your severance pay is 20 weeks you cannot receive unemployment until 20 weeks have passed.

Yes it is but you have to report the severance payment and that delays you being able to get unemployment but you can get it
