Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Some people actually believe they are safe

Our manager keeps telling us that our store is safe and we have nothing to worry about even with the bankruptcy. I'm having trouble figuring out if he is just that stupid or if he is just that smart (and heartless) to keep lying to us and ensure we stay until the inevitable closing, so his job is not harder between now and then.

If it's the second one it's working. Several people here are acting like what's going on will not affect us at all. And I'm too tired to argue with them about it.

Even rats know to abandon a sinking ship. If you doubt the security of your job start looking for another job on this field or another. I have heard very promising things about trade apprenticeships like the one for the IBEW.

Store managers don't know D--k so don't ever take their word, start looking before you lose your job after Christmas is over.

We were told the same thing at our store. We closed with absolutely no warning.

Kind of sad there are people hung up on the fact that thinking a store was profitable will save their jobs or that they will a severance package if they are laid off.

Everything is NOT fine.

Every store WILL close.

If you are still around you WILL be laid off.

Only one person wins.

Please keep in mind that working for a company is not like being part of a club. You can get outright fired for creating disruption. Your managers are not allowed to convey ANY non-approved narrative. This is not drinking "flavor-aid" this is trying to not get fired for cause.

I honestly don't now what people are looking for here. This is the real world. There's no climactic uprising of the workers against management "story arc". The reality is, everyone not in a C-title are going to keep their head's down and make the best of the situation until they can jump or until they are pushed. A very, very few will be lucky enough to turn into the spin and land in some post-Sears iteration of their current job

This isn't rocket science - Sears is in bankruptcy. Go find another job and stop looking for a Zack Snyder epic climactic conflict. It's not going to happen. You're not living in a story. There is no plot or narrative. The "bad guys" are not going to get their comeuppance, the "good guys" are not going to have their savior moment. People are going to do their jobs, stay under the radar so they're not fired early, thus giving them time to jump and otherwise try to not end up in disastrous financial straits.

Your manager is being told by upper management that everything is going to be fine and not too worry and to make sure to pass that on. The problem is that some of the store managers have drank too much Kool Aid and believe it. Being everything from a DM to normal store associate I have seen a lot and have heard a lot, Hoffman is telling everyone its going to be ok commonsense obviously tells us otherwise.
