Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Thanksgiving Hours.

I'm assuming that Sears will ruin one final Thanksgiving. Does anyone know if the hours will be the same as last year? Also is Thanksgiving a true time and a half day rather than the extra two dollars?

They might fire you if you don't show up. Which will happen anyway, even if you do. So f--- them. Don't show. Enjoy a nice meal with your family.

There is no state or Federal law requiring private employers to pay employees extra for working on a holidays, nor is there any law requiring employers to give employees paid time off for holidays. Federal employees, however, do get paid holidays.

The Federally Recognized Holidays

New Year’s Day

Birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr.

Washington’s Birthday

Memorial Day

Independence Day (4th of July)

Labor Day

Columbus Day

Veterans Day

Thanksgiving Day

Christmas Day

Do we really have to repeat this c-ap over and over again. YES you will get time and a half. The $2 per hour change did NOT impact thanksgiving or Christmas Day. Good god people, learn to read.

It's not even worth the bother to open on Thanksgiving. My store is an "A" store in a busy shopping area. We've got Best Buy, Target, Walmart, Kohl's, Office Depot, Marshalls, Lowes, Ross, Destination XL, Men's Warehouse, etc. as our neighbors--you name it, it's there.

Last year we opened on Thanksgiving and a whole five minutes went by before anybody came in. The anemic foot traffic we had died off around 9. There was lots of free time to catch up on things until midnight, so that was an upside, but our neighbors had pretty strong crowds. Even the Walgreen's at one of the main roads in to the shopping center had a good sized crowd going.

I'm hoping one of the "neighbors" nearby will scoop me up. I am a full-time supervisor and would like to jump in to a similar position elswehere. I've got six years under my belt and actually started off as an ASM, but everybody seems to disregard my experience and wants to offer part time menial work at minimum wage or a supervisor position for a laughable $1 over the minimum wage.

Wonder if the closing stores (ours included) will be opened on Thanksgiving. May very well be in Chapter 7 by then.

I'm sure they will have the same miserable hours as usual. But also, you probably won't get time and a half because I believe they got rid of "time and a half" and you'll only get the two dollars extra.
