Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Pueblo co

(Pueblo co yard) 4 machinists gone! No more mechanical in Pueblo! I was told they could bump any set up apprentice on the system, but you go with no seniority.

Well at least there's one person that thinks the unions are useful! Thank goodness for that!

They did, you anti-labor fools. The fact that they're not out on the street, like non-agreement, is proof the unions are useful.

Oh you mean the scab unions that collect the union dues, and do nothing for you! I'm guessing that's what you meant to say! Unions have done very little of anything for anyone! Those so-called labor agreements do nothing! Those labor agreements DO NOT IN ANY WAYguarantee employment! The UP has always found a way past the collective bargaining agreements, to achieve their goals! The unions are incredibly useless! Just remember the agreements are simple employee terms! IT IS NOT A EMPLOYMENT CONTRACT!

Don’t all of you have labor agreements to protect you from this? Surely your leaders negotiated a safety net for you.

Well someone said the Pueblo was shut down, and another said it's still there! If there's anyone that's wants to post BS based on no factual proof, then leave! Us workers are going through enough, and we don't need some a--hole rattling the cage anymore!

Pueblo still working

Fake News.

My brother works in Pueblo and when he got off at 7:30 tonight everyone was still there. He called some people ...no one in Pueblo was laid off.

Now there is talk of moving work from Denver because Pueblo can shuffle the cars better than some bigger yards they have around Co.

You could be right! There’s a shortage of electricians, machinists across the system for the big shops, ( 3rd. shift work) you close small yards without shops and you offer the craft people to follow the work, that’s one way of not having to payout signing bonuses , if they are willing to uproot their families and move? I could be next!

To my brothers in Pueblo, your brothers in Denver feel your pain. We will be joining you soon enough.

Sad part is that I think that's going to happen throughout the entire mechanical dept! The rumor is that they want to shut down all mechanical facilities, transfer that work to the shops exclusively! All the field mechanic positions will be abolished or moved to a shop! This is the streamlining approach that the executives want! I hope they're prepared for what will happen next, when they have no field mechanics!
