Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Tomorrow is it for IT InfoSys decision

I can't wait to see how many U.S. people will reject the InfoSys offer. I think the numbers will not be good based on the people I've talked to.

I hear that Infosys is planning to rent more buildings near Verizon. Something must be cooking in the near term

H1Bs will figure out how to stay around within the company. They are pretty sneaky. They are nice and all but listen more then talk to gather all the information and then make the best move to stay safe within the company. They become friendly with higher ups and HR. They want their green card and they are going to get it by looking innocent and hard working. I know three H1B employees who have moved around from department to department as soon as they got a hint of layoffs within their department. So don't get too friendly and don't tell them everything else they will be out for your job!

I am assuming wherever possible contractors will be let go after their current term and infosys will get those positions

It’s a bridge job to another one without worrying about being unemployed. Vsp, retained or go to infosys all have their minuses. I would say that there is no clear cut winner among any of them.

lvp,

I think you are correct.

At the end of 24 months, the bridge payment disappears.

At this point, it will be a significant pay cut.

With any luck I will no longer be there.

The market is still good, hopefully in 2 years it will also be.

@dbm if they didn't give a damn they wouldn't be hounding those of us who haven't yet accepted with reminder emails and even phone calls. Some of these applications are very complex and our customers have come to except a certain level of support. They are not going to get that without transition of domain knowledge. Over time it might happen, but it will be a painful first year.

Hope InfoSys can do better than Tech Mahindra did with the Nevada DMV. Nevada cancelled that contract after a year.

@pf1 there is a monetary agreement ONLY if you remain employed. They do NOT guarantee employment. In fact, one of the addendums to the offer refers to at-will employment. Not saying they'll get rid of everyone, but to make money on this, most of the high priced VZers will be gone before 24 months is up.

It is not the fear, it is the fact. History proves 1) what was done to employees at other companies with same business model, 2) what was initially done to these rebadged employees and moreover 3) if there is no profit from replacing with cheap labor, why would Verizon had do this transition and why Infosys took the contract? It is profit for both Verizon and Infosys at the expense of playing with employees lives.

All the fear mongers are at it again with talk of replacing VZ-er's going to Infosys. There are monetary guarantees in the offer, one way or another, for people accepting the offer.

If you don’t take it you automatically get the vsp and are leaving depending on your organization and backfills needed

What is to prevent verizon from riffing a significant number of those who decline the infosys offer?

Will Infosys/Verizon announce the number of people accepting

I see that they did some more changes to the contract

Exactly, even if ex-VZ go to Infosys, they will replace them with cheap labor after couple of months. So, why lose package by going to Infosys along with stress? So, no point of considering Infosys and look for bright future now itself by saying bye to Infosys and Verizon.

Don't be under impression that Infosys need ex-version employees, they will laughing all the way to bank if fewer people accept transfer offer. Infosys and any other Indian outsourcer don't give a damn to US skill set or domain expertise, they will develop those using hodge-podge method over time, they and Verizon goal is to save money, Infosys will love to bring minimum wage engineers from India than take ex-Verizon

It seems 20% to 30% are moving to Infosys which is a very low percentage of having highly skilled domain knowledge employees and things will shakeup.
