Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Manager mentioned this website at store meeting today

He said it was undermining the company's efforts to make a turnaround by spreading "fake news." (this was the actual term that he used). then he said that Sears is planning on bringing a lawsuit against this site and that they (sears) have already obtained the ip addresses of all the posters on here. I'm pretty sure this is all BS, but now i'm kinda worried because I do visit here often and posted a few. What do you think? Could there be anything to this? or is it all a bluff???

Every aspect and entity of SHC thirves on "bully" tactics. Quit letting them threaten you. Stand up to them!

It has nothing to do with Trump winning. It has to do with society slipping into a shell game. If you can't see that, you are part of the problem. But what am I thinking, this is undoubtedly way over your head. Perhaps you can find someone to explain it to you.

Even IF thelayoff gave the IP address, all that points to is your internet provider. And they are not going to give Sears any info about who that IP is assigned to. Just don't use this site while On The Clock at SHC.

Here are a few things to do:

  1. Read the 1st and 4th amendments. I personally recommend reading the whole constitution.

  2. Do not use Sears devices or Wi-Fi for the the Layoff and/or job searches.

  3. Work on getting out of there. Even rats know to abandon a sinking ship.

  4. Your manager is being a bully. He/She is likely under a lot pressure to keep people around and knows that as more people are looking information on there own that they will not wait around to see what is going to happen.

Many places are hiring for the holidays. If you want out of retail this can be a blessing. Someone recomended that I look I into a union such as the electricians union for an apprenticeship and get paid to learn a trade in demand.

As long as you don't use their Wifi/internet and/or Sears computer you are fine.

It's any not different than searching job websites on their internet...they CAN trace that. Be smart...don't use their stuff and you are find.

Honestly, the manager probably has been told to use scare tactics to keep you off of this site.

Your employer is full of sh!t let me tell you for them to even start doing something about this site could take years. As someone mentioned what about the other sites that put Sears on the spot?

Also the site has no right to give the IP addresses to anyone thats invasion of privacy. What your employer is doing is a scared tactic he/she is full of it and cant do a single thing from this website. Do you really think Sears even has the funds to bring an action law suit at this time. Nope.

If Sears wants to take legal action against this site, then what about all the other online sites such as Motley Fool....etc that have been posting articles with commentary and opinions on the decline of Sears holdings....

There are videos on YouTube from various sources discussing the problems at Sears and KMart as well.

Customers are reading about the problems with Sears from a number of sites on the internet.

A few things.

The first amendment only protects speech from interference by the government. It does not protect you against your employer. An employer has the right to fire you if it does not like what you are saying.

Second, Sears has no way of knowing who you are if you are not using a Sears network when you connect. They are not able to compel The Layoff to divulge user information. That would require a signed warrant from a judge, and unless there are specific, credible threats made, no judge would even consider signing off on it.

Third, no lawyer would even bother signing onto a last against The Layoff, because they will be laughed out of court. There is no justifiable cause for harm that can be measured, any more than there would be on any given stock exchange forum. And all a defense lawyer would have to point to, is that Sears business is failing because of the actions of the plaintiffs.

You have my permission to roll your eyes at your manager.

Stone cold bluff. Sears can’t even keep the lights on without getting a handout from Fast Eddie and his cronies.

These threats aren’t real except to employees using their company cell phone instead of personal cell phone. And management wouldn’t be able to get the IP address for you without a court order and they have not asked for one. Sears is currently trying anything to make sure they have enough employees to run what is still open. I say jump ship as soon as you have a new offer, just make sure to give your notice and all so you get all your vacation and personal time owed. I was told that by my attorney. I checked with him to verify what my rights are during the BK. If your done before they move to CH 7 then they will have to pay out what is owed if you file the correct form with the BK court before other debts are paid. Good luck everyone and don’t believe their stupid threats if they can’t show you proof of what they are saying.

These are frightening times. There are bullies and liars everywhere...running our companies, running our country...we cannot let them silence us. The truth must be told. Remember, they are trying to tell us not to believe what we see and hear...dangerous times, my friends.

I wouldn't worry too much about it for a number of reasons.

First, other than some of the silly junk that people put on here, most are either questions or rumors that they are looking into.

Second, Sears has already got a bad enough of an image problem that they don't need to be seen trying to invade employees' privacy and threatening retaliation for posting here.

Third, the site says that it values anonymity for a reason, and the only way that they would release IP addresses is if someone posted something illegal.

Fourth, knowing an IP address only gets them to your service provider, and your internet service provider (who counts on your monthly subscription fee) would have to have a good reason to identify an individual user.

Fifth, the entire company is on the verge of collapse in a few months and threatening your job almost seems like a joke at this point.

And to follow up, the Chairman/ (former) CEO of the company is being looked at for all the assets he has separated for himself at the expense of the company. It doesn't really look good for investigators that they are trying to get at people posting rumors or questions with what he has done.

its Definitely BS. The only way they can track individually who use this site is if you access it while on the company’s network.

Keep in mind that also includes using company WiFi on your phone.

Freedom of speech is freedom to speak about the government so that doesn't apply here.

BUT - do you really think this website gave the IP s to SHC and that SHC is able to link them to actual employees? Furthermore, you would have to be sued somewhere. Where? All the state or federal district courts where everyone lives? Right. SHC has the time in resources for this now that they are in bankruptcy and being scrutinized by the bankruptcy court? Makes no sense.

There are technology companies on here with real computer programmers posting about their companies which have computer science as their main line of business and these folks aren't worried. Those companies probably could find their employees. Sears not so much .

Ok everyone is worried about this web site. 1 Freedom of speech. Also everyone said Eddie helped Sears. Bull c-ap why can't people when calling speak English. 2 Why is it if you want a warranty they answered in under 5 min and you need a repair answered in 1 hr. 3 Why not be a very intelligent person and down load the 307 pages of bankruptcy and read for your self. 4. Why not also be a smart person and read the Federal exchange commission paperwork where he moved things to benefit himself. 5. Why not ask Google or a real attorney and see if they file chapter 7 no one gets there last paycheck or servant pay or unemployment if they didn't pay that in. 6 How do I know I checked on it a long time ago. 7 Why want they tell the truth cause if they did no one would be around to run the stores or work there and would grab what they could. Enough Said now there's the truth!!!!!!!!!

A little birdie told me that corporate sent out an email to all the store managers about this site a little while back. I didn't see it myself, but was told it basically said to say whatever you have to to scare people off from posting here,

I work at Sears and we've had plenty of store meetings on Sunday. I've also heard of managers making threats over people accessing this site, but it hasn't happened at my store yet (that I know of).

This site is a posting place for opinion and SHC certainly does not have money to spend on a frivolous lawsuit.
