Hired out on the reading in 74 and moved right on to Conrail railroaders took care of all the new hires the old timers protected new men in the field on the road and I the shops their was a brotherhood now every manager wants to be like CP’s Hunter Harrison and this b—s— micro manage railroads, in the end Conrail should should still be here
Furloughed close to 50 qualified conductors in Sheffield , AL in 2019. While having over 30 trainees furloughed before they could get qualified . But yet new Trainmasters are still being brought in that bring no value .
Just layed off 5 people in Baltimore. On top of that trying to get rid of car inspectors... talking about getting rid of yardmasters and putting in cameras and dumping yardmaster duties on Lancaster ym.. what a pos company.. gets a 15% tax cut and from day one starts cutting jobs and laying people off ... I hope all the politicians that said a corporate tax cut would let the business hire more people and pay there people more are watching this... don’t know why they thought that for one second... all ns does is take take take and they don’t give a sh– about there employees ... but hey tell me how you really feel

97 jobs cut in Altoona locomotive shop

4 Decatur locomotive shop
- just waiting to hear about all the others.
In other news NS earnings above estimates $$$
apply to Amtrak they are looking for good freight engineers. Oh by the way no stock market to answer to either. Fantastic place to work.
NS just furloughed 100 people at Juniata shops
Dont anyone apply to this place. Managers constantly looking for wrong doing. Managers are also given a bonus and promotions for finding safety rule violations. They hide in yards and "SAT" check you for rules violations then fire you. The layoffs have nothing to do with the economy and everything to do with getting the operating ratio down from .64 to .60. They want shareholders to get rich
So my son quit a nice job, took a pay cut, to start a training regimen with Norfolk Southern. About 90 new trainees in his group alone, and there were other large groups being trained. Laid off 3 weeks before training was complete. This cost him A LOT OF MONEY ... just so these id–ts at NS could lie to him ... AND GET THEIR GRANTS AND TAX RIGHT OFFS FOR TRAINING PEOPLE. Anyone know if he can sue these b–tardS ... Maybe a group lawsuit??
I’ve already gotten furloughed twice in Atlanta
Yes tomorrow
Shire Oaks Elrama Pa furloughed 3 guys in car shop. Engine house 2 .Abolished gang leader and storeroom(shipping receiving) to make it with unreasonable qualifications... combined
No job on system has theses required qulifications as a gangleader.
WNC NS freight conductor here. about 10 or so of us bottom seniority COs laid off currently. Talk of merging Asheville district into Linwood district.
In reply to the comment about the last load to Skyland coal plant - yes thats correct. After a lot of EPA pressure that Duke plant is switching to nat gas instead of coal. Also a lot of the usual coal ash issues.
Also FYI Asheville sub-district just lost its most infamously useless trainmaster of all time. She will not be missed or grieved. Sadly her replacement will probably be just as useless...
I saw Sun 21st news flash that NS had dropped last load in Skyland, NC. A man was saying several jobs to be lost. Cannot find this ingo anywhere ARE some of the lines in WNC to be cut,?
Glorious day in hells half acre hey Omar!
There was life before this damn railroad and there will be life after. we may be furloughed but we can watch them run it in the ground, just like CSX.
They laid off 25 in the last 2 months at c.d.s. and a week later they want to call overtime what a f..... up company! They need to let some management go have to many bosses! And half of them dont know what day of the week it is!
They don't offer buyouts to craft employees
Any truth that there's gonna be more layoffs at Conway yard this Tuesday the day after Memorial day.
Conway layed off a bunch of Laborers this week and today they're forcing the youngest 2 Laborers to stay over and work overtime......Unreal!!!
I seen someone posted "Force the ones at retirement age to retire and offer anyone within 5 years an early retirement.". I say make the ones who are at retirement age an offer to retire.
Most of the Managers are expendable, especially the Trainmasters ,Road Foremen etc. Sadly for them they were hired out of college with no idea of how a railroad needs to run , the older supervisors above them only have a couple years on the job , so you literally have the blind leading the blind. The only thing NS gets consistency on is making sure their young managers act arrogant and try and find someone breaking one of the thousands of senseless work rules . Instead of helping employees move freight safely and working together , management does everything possible to harass and write people up on violations. Unless there is pressure to move the freight because they created a crisis , which they do daily , then it is ok for managers to try to get you to break every rule in the book because it benefits them.
As far as Norfolk Southern cutting Supervision jobs I haven't seen anything other than just changing their titles! Instead of being a Trainmaster they are now called Senior Road Managers/Road Managers SeniorTerminal Managers/Terminal Managers. I guess if you relabeled the supervision title than you can say your cutting their jobs! Shameful
Layoffs of conductors have already begun in numerous locations. Cleveland,Ohio & Birmingham,Alabama I can give 100% accuracy on that fact.
Force the ones at retirement age to retire and offer anyone within 5 years an early retirement.
We Have Done So Much with So Little for So Long, that Now We Can Do Anything with Nothing. All in the name of profits for the rich.
Three laborers, one boilermaker, Two pipe fitters, Two machinists and Two electricians from Conway.
Juniata laid off 50!
10 Machinist
14 Electricians
12 Boilermakers
8 Pipefitters
6 Carman
Just heard today that Enola, Conway, Juinata, and Elkhart are going to see some cuts soon. Possibly Chi and Birmingham and Atlanta also. 96
Any idea on next shop to get hit? And what craft they plan on laying off?
45 laid off at SCX on Tuesday, NS had a great 1st quarter. Proxy report came out a month ago, and Jim Squires salary and stock options and everything else puts him over 12 million. Greed at the top
Womp womp womp
Juniata hasn't been hit yet maybe we will miss the layoffs that the other shops are getting seems busy for. Now but. That's not a sure thing. Rumors are uncertain. Hope presion railroading doesn't screw us all.
Conway engine house 14 layed off today
They laid off this morning at C.D.S. 4/23/19
Layoffs hitting Bellevue railyard. To date 40 engineers, and 12 shop laid off. And that's the first round. Prayers to all of those affected
You trainees who have been let go and were told of the thousands you were going to make your first couple years and then become engineers. You give up your jobs, your livelihoods, and many relocated, based on a lie. The terms of your employment were misrepresented to you and you took that information in good faith. Your smart people, you know were this is going. Pursue it.
Laying off 400 T&E employees system wide including all CT’s on Friday 2/22. Informed by Union Rep a few hours ago. So it begins.
I’m a newly marked up conductor, and advice on what to do with all this talk about all these jobs getting cut?
