Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

What about those of us who stay?

Are people aware of just how bad it's going to get for those of us who remain after this whole buyout is done? Who do you think will be expected to pick up the work of those who leave? Do you honestly believe the workload will magically decrease?

And some of us didn't get the luxury of choosing if we want to stay or leave.

Sorry for those left behind. It will be rough. New folks will be hired but you will have to train them. Think moral is low now.....

Are you trying to drive up the numbers?

The work won’t get done or people will work themselves to death.

I for one am done working multiple overnights in a row, weekends, over vacations and holidays. I’ll put in my hours working hard to finish priorities given and occasionally will work a few more but not always.

In IT positions might be filled out, but only if absolutely must. That was in Cox's town hall

Developers get all the OT they want.

They do not get any money for it, mind you.

Developers don't get OT.

Positions will still be back-filled by a younger and cheaper workforce.

Why this is the issue? You will have priorities and what's left - that goes to backlog

We'll backfill some of our slots with contractors. Both leaving and remaining employees will assist in training.

I will just be glad if I can keep my good paying job. As far as doing a ton more work, I already do way more than I use to and will continue to give Verizon a good 8 hrs a day. If Verizon wants more, that's what overtime is for. Bottom line it's a good job, but it's still just a job, it's not my life. I don't doubt things will get a little crazy, but I look forward to watching some of these brain trusts sink or swim. I definitely think some of the weaker leadership is going to stick out like a sore thumb.

Here's a clue. On my Director's staff call this week, one of my peer managers asked him who would be developing the plan for how all the work would still get done if we lost multiple people on our teams. My Director's response? "We'll be looking to you as managers and leaders to already be working on developing your contingency plans."

Run Forrest run!

It depends what kind of decisions management makes. It will be terrible if this is just another round of do the same things with different people. It could be fine if we start with a clean slate and do only those things that make sense in the new operating environment.

You have to prioritize your work yourself and just stop doing anything that isn't in the mix with the top priorities. The Company won't do that for you, they will just demand it all to be done. I've had to manage it this way for years with all the ridiculous layoffs that force the Business to get to some number for Wall Street without any real plan as to who would do the work after folks are gone. Long story short, an individual in a professional job has more control than they realize to make logical decisions about their day.

Work load will definitely increase greatly. Feel sorry for the ones that can not leave. Good luck to you all.

Feel sorry for those that are remaining with no options left. You are already doing double duty at VZ and can't imagine those at Infy.

Why would anyone who is leaving care?

I agree with your sentiment though, but you should ask Hans/Left Over Management
