Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Heard through the grapevine only two techs per CO after REORG

My manager told me today that their goal is to only have to two techs per site. Eliminating the night shift. If something does come up that needs to be addressed after hours then that switch techs would have to take turns to cover. Then there will only be one pager and it will rotate to the remaining techs that are left behind after all the carnage is done. So one person will have to be on call for all of New England.

@VTbKrLw-3bco well said. VZB has no idea what the time frames VZW expects on outages. I've heard similar things from the VZB team, then you realize they are just a ticket monkey and don't have any idea the depth and skill set VZW has cultivated.

To the VZB " ex MCI " jerk that claims people who work the night shift in a wireless office do nothing is a complete 100% a-- kissing jerk ! I have spent 15 years working nights. VZW would be worse than Sprint if we were not doing our jobs. We take a lot of pride in our work and we have had many nights that we do not go home at the end of out shifts . You have a lot of balls to accuse us of doing nothing. You know nothing about wireless. We have spent our carrers making VZW the best cellphone company in the country. You could not make it in this company if you did not sacrifice your weekends / nights and holidays running out to the cells or the CO to get equipment back in service . You are a f---ing know it all who knows nothing. Go back to MCI they are looking for another loser in Charlton to sweep the floor .

Again this is why the reorganization is needed. We don’t need three techs doing nothing until 12. So they work part time hours over there I guess.

MSC tech's in VZW do not make money off the change controls. They are hourly employees. The rules have recently changed and now they are not allowed to touch some of the equipment they have been maintaining for years. VZB getting VZW Operations; part of the new contract seems to me...

CO tech is a Union Job. Those guys ain’t going anywhere, even if there’s a surplus they just get moved to other union jobs. These cuts are management cuts not union.

VZB already maintains wireless sites. It’s weird though when I go to the site all work is done at midnight , but there are three wireless techs already working the night shift. They can’t work on certain regional equipment, so they are already there working on equipment a bay or rack away but can’t touch the equipment I am working on. Now you know why there is a reorganization. VZW has been getting away with murder by the way they man the sites. They still work off of change controls and their pay is based on how many they create. They are going to be reorganizing similar to VZB.

This has been the case in our area for over 10 years nothing new about it. The night coverage is about 8 -12 COs per tech.

Wireless has MSC's not CO's.

Your statements do not add up for wireless?

1 when you say “techs” are you referring to FAE’s? If you are there are more COs in this area than techs in my group

2 FAE do not have a night shift

3 rotating 1 on call for ALL of New England is not efficient or smart you would be paying 1 person more in drive time than having multiple on call pagers.

4 who the hell uses a pager anymore ??

5 what about areas that don’t have VZ COs?

Your argument is vague and unconvinceing

One person for all of NE...lol do you know how many CO are in NE? Off the top of my head I can think of 6 in a 30 mile radius. Your statement doesn’t add up

Old news.. The model has been assigning 1 or 2 CO tech "rovers" for an area. After hours is simply a call out

That’s not possible considering illness and vacation. Sounds like gross exaggeration.

Sounds about right. Awesome products and network. Unfortunately those of us who built it up over the last 20 years are being forced to go.
