On my Director's staff call this week, one of my peer managers asked him who would be developing the plan for how all the work would still get done if we lost multiple people on our teams. My Director's response? "We'll be looking to you as managers and leaders to already be working on developing your contingency plans."

Agreed. My Manager knows that I've volunteered (I told her willingly, no secrets) but has done nothing in terms of contingency planning in case me or any of my coworkers are gone. I know for a fact that she has no plans to volunteer so I don't understand her lack of action. If asked I will document my work but after surviving 2 rounds of "Finance Transformation" I'm burnt out on writing documentation so if they wait until Dec 10th to face up to reality that's their problem.

Almost none of the new leaders could lead a girl scout troop cookie sale let alone a tier 1 network and its operation. This whole thing is funny. They ought to be frogmarching every third director and every other ED out the door. As far as VPs, are there are maybe 10 worth a damn that have any idea what they are doing or supposed to be doing. Most are seriously faking it outside of engineering. Let them go.

Your director has given you a cowards answer because that's what he and most of upper management is, a gang of cowards and bullies.
No one knows how anything will work, especially after the org announcement.
They are taking "You have to delegate" to heart :)
Its funny how our Directors/ADs have design sessions without calling any of the architects/developers
