WATCH: Oracle Shows Off High- Performance Computing In The Cloud

Altair and Oracle have unveiled a joint solution that offers faster high-performance computing in the cloud. The solution leverages GPU technology to offer on-demand, Computational Fluid Dynamics technology, accelerating external aerodynamics and other complex flow simulations.

We caught up with the CO-CEO of Oracle for some questions:

crn. "MH, could you tell us what this means to Oracle cloud growth, what potential advantage this gives Oracle cloud over other providers?"

MH. "Its big. No other provider utilizes the power of the GPU like we do in the cloud."

crn. "When you say big how big is it? And what do you mean by big."

MH. "Big like whale size big, big you know... its huge... massive. Imagine a beached blue whale thrashing about people running in terror. That kind of big. Only its not blue, its red and it has the Oracle logo on it."

crn. "Fantastic imagery. How many customers are out there right now that require Computational Fluid Dynamics technology?"

MH. "Well I imagine the whole defense industry and the pentagon should look into this. I mean they build planes and ships and stuff. Outside of defense I'm sure all sorts of vehicle manufacturers, hsip builders, aerospace companies."

crn. "So maybe Space X and Tesla."

MH. "Of course. I'd expect them to sign up today."

crn. "Today?"

MH. "Absolutely, we are gonna be big in no time with this. The only thing holding us back is we don't have enough young blood in the company. I have been doing my best to get new ideas in Oracle. Fresh blood, young supple minds and bodies that can be molded. Have I told you about my 'Class of' program? I did that. All me, my idea. And I am super proud of that. If the rest of the world would catch on, everyone would be buying Oracle cloud."

I get the whale as "big" analogy..... but then, instead of it being a whale that is swimming swiftly in the ocean devouring its competitors.... he makes it a "beached" whale, thrashing wildly...... exactly what he is doing.... thrashing wildly.

Serious freudian slip there.... straight out of the mind of a man who sees the end coming and is thrashing wildly in the hopes that something might work. Spinning whatever he can.

You can see it a mile away.

And then that c-ap about the "class of" program.... HEY, MH, replacing salespeople with young cheaper people won't fix the problems in development!! You are still trying to sell c-ap!!

... and then there's the mention of blood over and over again.... what's going on in MH's feeble mind?

The phrase, "fresh blood", is usually used in a negative context. Like a vampire feeding.....

Love the beached whale thing. Was that some freudian slip, perhaps? Really, beached whales are dying, right. Somehow does he really think of Oracle as the dying company it is, and this analogy came out of his unconscious mind?

Oracle is a beached whale, thrashing about on the shore, all red, covered in blood?

It's all over with, even MH can't fight the reality of what is going on. I expect he's just there for the "supple minds and bodies".

SpaceX already does their own fluid Dynamics in house. And the University I went to has a computer center with lots of GPU resources. This is not magic. Google offers an open source computation package called TensorFlow that does the heavy lifting for things like this, Deep Learning, etc

Oracle shelved Sun's HPC assets and exited the business a long time ago. I don't disagree with that, by the way, because it's really hard to make a profit in HPC (not enough customers, too much one-off and customization). But then I can't understand why Oracle would now do an HPC demo? I'm fairly certain that no HPC user would ever think of Oracle when considering where to buy computing cycles.

This isn't anything that can't be done in other clouds. AWS, Azure, and Google have far more GPUs, CPUs, and data centers than Oracle, and by more, and mean orders of magnitude.

Fresh blood, young supple minds and bodies that can be molded.

That's just plain creepy.....

Interesting choice of metaphor..... yeah, Oracle customer should run like hell.... away from the big thrashing red Oracle whale.

LOL

Wow, is that what Oracle used to win the Americas Cup last year? Oh, wait...
